What were the best and worst jobs you ever had before becoming a nurse?
My best was as a vocalist for a band. In fact, if you watch the movie "My Life" w/ Michael Keaton and Nicole Kidman, I was the singer in the wedding band at the reception scene. Red sequined dress shaking a tambourine. That was fun!
Worst job was my first job ever, working at Dunkin' Donuts. I still have trouble eating those!
Best Job: Bookeeper a not for profit foundation dedicated to higher education. No pressure, constant fun, and catered lunch every day. Got to speak to interesting people like the Dean of Harvard University, who were as charming as they could be, 'cause they wanted grants.
Worst Job: It's a tie. One would have to be McDonalds when I was 16. I worked the counter, but at close had to CLEAN THE MENS' RESTROOM. I had never seen a urinal before. My mom made me quit when she found out.
The other would be as a bookkeeper at a pool and spa supply warehouse. My office was IN the warehouse, I smelled of chlorine, and I was the only woman there. The unisex bathroom was stocked with Mediao mags, and the guys did drugs out in the warehouse when it was slow. My husband made me quit that one.
Best job..working at a stable in Virginia. Cleaning stalls ,feeding, grooming the horses and exercising them. The lady boss would show up out of the house after I loaded the horse into the van,so she could go to a hunt or show. And for this...$1.50/hr.!!!! I was terrorized by her geese.
worst job..making surgical needles curvy for 8 hours a day. tiny needle in the machine, get hands out of way, stomp. get hands out of way, stomp X 8 hours.
Best Job: current one, as a nurse consultant to a state Dept. of Transportation. I take impaired drivers off the road, make policy, advise the legislature. Its a great nursing gig.
Worst Job: Working as a "Fotomate" at a Fotomat booth in the winter of 1978 in New Hampshire. You had to answer the phone "Hi! This is your Fotomate!". Local toughs played chicken by driving very fast at the booth. You had to beg a local merchant to let you use their bathroom. Pay was about 1.95$ per hour.
Right on, Renee.
My best job before becoming a nurse also was being a mother, and now I just loooooove being a grandmother. It's sooo much fun!
My worst job ever was working in a laundromat. I worked on a shirt presser that had to be set at 400 degrees, and it was torture working on it in the summer. No AC or fan for me.

Worst- Photographer's assistant, well sorta, the guy took pictures of tourists in the streets with his parrots. I got to clean the cages- He did name a bird after me though.
Best Job- Volunteer at Tripler Army Medical Center in HI when I was like 12. My mom worked for the Red Cross, and would take me to work. I loved the veterans, it was like having a bunch of grampas. Used to take them magazines and books.
