Was wondering if anyone knew anything about AMC? I am thinking of relocating to the Atlanta area and just want to know what is a good hospital and of course, which ones to stay away from. I am a cardiology RN and would like to stay in that area.

thanks for all your replies!!!!

Just a student, but I don't know that AMC is well known for cardio. Have you looked at Saint Joseph's?

No, I haven't looked at St Josephs, I don't really know much about the Atlanta area, I do know that I am looking for a progressive cardiac unit, and I believe that ratios are important!! I work in the Northwest and we only have 1:3 ratios on the tele floors, it is WONDERFUL. but we are looking at relocating and I do want to make it a positive one, thanks for the input!!

FYI- St. Joseph's is a Magnet Hospital.

If you are looking for a progressive Cardio Unit, you might want to check out Emory University Hospital, too.

Just my opinion, I would go with the magnet hospital. i work for one now, I will only work for a hospital with magnet status after my experience at my hospital now. Nurses are well respected, staffing is adequate and its just an overall friendly atmosphere. Good luck!!!:)

If you want progressive then stay away from Atlanta Medical Center! They are owned by Tenet now, but they sucked even before that. For cardiology, try St. Joseph's or even Piedmont, Crawford Long or Emory. Good luck and welcome to Georgia.

I previously worked for a hospital striving for magnet status, and if they obtain that status I'll cry huge tears because I felt NO respect as one of their employed nurses, and the staffing sucked big time! No way in hell were those units staffed adequately! :nono: The atmosphere was friendly at times because I worked with some pretty cool people (with the exception of a few, but everyone has bad apples in the bunch, so what else is new?).

AMC is an awesome teaching hospital with the best nurse pt ratio 1:2 or 1:1 in the icu's... wonderful people and great benefits.. As for St JOsephs it sucks.. Magnet hospital means nothing here.. 1:3 is very commen and charge nurse always takes pts.. same number... I can speak of both of these since I currently work at both... Stay away from WEllstar they suck and they did not get the Magnet award thank God... Emory's pay sucks...

I interviewed there and was offered a position. When I went for the physical, there were three hookers outside fighting on the corner next to Chik-Fil-A and a bum was shaking his fist at me yelling incoherently as I crossed Boulevard - there were 3 Atlanta police cars just sitting there doing nothing. Literally right outside the hospital. I declined the position. I just didn't really feel comfortable there at all. The view of downtown from the upper floors is amazing though.
