Anyone else dealing with unemployment $ (BLEEP!)?

I filled out all the unemployment stuff on time. Then they sent me a second form in the mail that I filled out and mailed back promptly...now I get this letter in the mail saying I have a telephone interview on the 13th...Its been OVER a month since I got laid off, why do I have to jump through all these hoops? I understand that there are a lot of people collecting unemployment right now...but its MY money! It came from MY paycheck! I feel like one of those people on one of the those settlement commercials "Its MY money and I want it NOW!!!"

I have never filed for unemployment before, is this all normal?? My dad is a seasonal worker, my mom said he has never had to go through this much!

I'm not knowledgeable about this subject....how is it "your" money?

I'm sorry they are going so slow but it IS the government.

On a side note... Employers pay unemployment. Not employees.

Ok I see that. I always thought it came out of my paycheck and the employer paid a portion. Regardless, I was laid off, I did not quit so I can not think of any reason why I need to have an interview...???

Phone interviews are a normal part of the unemployment process. Every state does them. They also conduct fact finding interviews with the employer and other individuals.

Most unemployment offices aren't very large and they won't pay anything until they are satisfied you are eligible.

Plus, depending on the state you are in I am betting they are very swamped.

This happened to me in NJ and the reason was because my employer gave a different reason than me being laid off as the reason for me leaving.... A lot of times the employer will try to act like you resigned instead of being laid off because they don't want a claim against their unemployment insurance....I interviewed by phone 6 weeks later (no pay) and was asked a ton of questions. They then called the employer on the other line because they too are notified they have a phone interview. When they called my employer the service they used to talk to Unemployment didn't have anymore information for them.. Within a week my benefits were approved retroactively. I suggest you to be honest if you were laid off (I am really hoping you didn't give any kind of resignation) and answer only what you've been asked. Do not add to much other information. Here in NJ I felt like they were looking for a reason not to approve my benefits....

I would call them.. This happened to me too and come to find out they didn't received my app for benefits... Unemployment has been a nightmare for me too... Between being on hold all day and having my checks stopped for dumb reasons... I am really tired of - yet grateful for unemployment...

I'm getting myself psyched up to go to the office in person. I've dealt with them on the phone before and it is just plain frustrating. At least in person, there is a chance that something will happen. I had filed online for the first time. Just another example for me how doing important things online isn't always such a wise idea.

I have been there, Its a government thing. Just play the game, whetever it takes to get the checks going. The employer pays the unemployment insurance, but it is a benefit of working, so you are within you rights to make the claim. It just takes a while to cut through the red tape.

I jumped through hoops and was ultimately denied 8 weeks later. No pay. They said one of the reasons you can qualify for unemployment is if you move more than 50 miles from your job to follow a spouse's job or something like that. We moved 3 hrs away because my husband got a job. Then they denied me because I quit my job to move with my husband and they didn't think that was a good reason. Uh. Your letter says it's a valid reason! Then I found out that rule didn't become valid until a month after I filed so they denied it because I wasn't in the right time frame.

I was able to find a job in my new market shortly after that but it certainly sucked.

Last I looked UI was taken out of my paycheck...
