WE nurses we need to be as much closed as possible of truth. All of us we dream at the best hospital, best facility to be, to work or to be treated just in case.

We went to school to be between the bests and play with the stars. Are new graduates, nurses who still belive in these...tell us from your experience in the BEST hospitals and nursing facilities ever... the best places from nurses, the best places for healthcare.

Each year hospital ranking are changed. On first position always is John Hopkins Hospital from Baltimore. Hey they make me curious, lol!!!

They used a lot of criteria for ranking.

"Here are a few of the details: Reputation, which counted as 32.5 percent of the score, was based on three years of specialist surveys--a total of almost 10,000 physicians were asked to name five hospitals they consider among the best in their specialty for difficult cases, without taking into account cost or location. A mortality index, also 32.5 percent of the score, indicates a hospital's ability to keep patients with serious problems alive. Patient safety, new this year, made up 5 percent of the score; it indicates how well a hospital minimizes harm to patients. And a group of other care-related factors, such as nurse staffing and available technology, accounted for the remaining 30 percent. "

I work at Methodist hospital, number 20. It is a GREAT place to work!!

I don't work at UCLA, but my son had surgery there this past year and I think they have become my dream job. :) Amazing facility, and every single physician and nurse we dealt with was fabulous. They definitely deserve their #3 rating.

I work at the #1 hospital in NYC, #6 in the country- NYP/Weill Cornell. When I first started working there I had my doubts about it being ranked so highly, especially when it comes to nursing. But i've discovered that it truly is great. While nurses themselves don't always feel like its great for them, we as nurses do make it great for the patients (does that make sense?) I meet a lot of patients who first went to other hospitals in NY for treatment, were greatly disappointed, and when they came to us they felt extremely well cared for. When I do follow up calls with patients they tell us how grateful they are for the care they received and well they are doing. Sorry to toot my own horn, but for the most part, I think I work at a pretty great hospital. :yeah:

I start at NYP/Weill Cornell in a month and I'm really excited. I had two clinicals there and definitely thought it was a great hospital from that brief experience. I hope I feel the same way after a few months/years of working there.

I used to work in one of the top hospitals on the list. The quality of patient care's great ! However, as an employee, it's a stressful environment. For instance, everything you do are being monitored because they're constantly calculating the number of incidence reports in the unit and how many med errors nurses make...etc.

The rankings are rubbish, if you read the methods used to rank - patient safety only makes up 5%, while "reputation" (opinion of physicians with unknown allegiances) makes up 32.5%. Also, the "staffing" feature, just looked at the number of nurses employed vs. hospital beds... that doesn't guarantee what nurse-patient ratios are as not all work in patient care.

Anyhow, my hospital made the honor roll, and I do think it's definitely a high -acuity hospital where they can handle most things. But it does annoy me that Cleveland Clinic makes #1 for cardiac every year!

^^ I'm in Australia and my great-aunt's cardiologist trained at the Cleveland Clinic. I don't think he's that crash hot! Sorry, a bit off topic....

I find it really interesting that in a number of the top ranked hospitals I've heard anecdotal reviews from prior patients admitted for psychiatric problems (specifically eating disorders) who've thrown the programs to hell and come out of other, non-listed hospitals singing their praises. Apparently Cornell is the ultimate hell for psych treatment and Hopkins, UCLA and Methodist didn't come far behind!
