  1. I agree with the previous poster. It was not her call to not code him?? You did fine OP, sometimes there is just nothing we can do.
  2. I agree with legalization of marijuana, not cocaine and harder drugs.
  3. lol...i also laughed...but nervous as to where this thread is heading... :sofahider
  4. Our ER nurses dont usually bring the pt. either, it's usually a tech. I'm sure they transport them to ICU though if that's where the pt. it being admitted to.
  5. Since I work nights, the admitting doc almost never sees the patient before they come to me, all the orders I spoke of previously are ER orders. The ones for the floor are ordered by the ER doctor and are put on "hold". Im talking about the orders that are not on "hold" and just havent been carried out. We also have emergencies on the floor too, with less help, especially at night! :) Omg i know what you mean about being fed right away. it's really hard when they are very sick and dont even realize it. like we need to keep then NPO and are trying to prep them for surgery fast and they just lay there ******** about how we are "starving them" and "how can we treat them like this?" even after explaining why we are doing what we are doing. if it's an old lady or man i understand but a young a/oX3 pt. who acts like this gets on my last nerve!
  6. I work the floor and I completely understand the ER nurse has less time for "fluff". the only time I do get a bit snippy (im also pregnant) is when orders that are ordered hours previously are not done such as antibiotic administration, blood cultures or other labs. Also if there is a CT, MRI or some other test ordered, it's so much easier if they do it before they come to the floor...it makes no sense to get them all settled in then move them back downstairs again! I work night shift so it's all the more irritating to the pt. These are the only times I have probably come off ****** to the ER nurse. otherwise things like a wet diaper or the dirty gown dont bother me a bit! keep doing what youre doing! :)
  7. I always try to remember that doctors, just like nurses, are human too. When something like this happens in my hospital I would just call the NP on call if the doctor signed off on NPs, but of course not all facillities have this.
  8. Of course it's misleading...just look at the source...
  9. This is exactly what I did and it works out great! I worked full time (3 nights a week) up until I had my first baby, then I went back part time (2 nights a week). Working 2 nights a week still gets me health insurance at my hospital and no you do not take a pay cut. You can also go PRN which has a couple options. I am currently pregnant and will maybe go PRN after the baby (4 or 2 nights a month). At my hospital you get a set rate at PRN (usually mid thirtys/hr i think, and also shift diffs) but no health insurance. If youre husband has health insurance for you and your family it doesnt matter though. Good luck!!
  10. I feel exactly the same. Sometimes I feel like I am the only one complaining around here. I dont understand how most of the nurses I work with think that what is happening is ok. I am pregnant so I need maternity insurance but after I have this baby I will be quitting! Id rather pay for private insurance and cut back on household costs than continue to dread going to work and being treated like a waitress/slave.
  11. I cant stand when people act this way! When my FIL was in my hospital, on MY UNIT, my MIL would complain constantly. It got on my last nerve! I would probably give the friend a piece of my mind because that's just how I am. But defriending her is a good idea too :)
  12. yeah, agree with above posts. I can see your position but in the end you did write "V.O" when in fact you did not get a verbal order.
  13. i loved a patient i had last week too! it really refreshes you go have a nice, normal, grateful patient!
  14. that is horrible. i feel for you. when i was new there was a nurse on day shift that loved to make me feel dumb. I dreaded giving report to her in the mornings. really now that i think back, it is because she was insecure in herself, talking down to me as if i was stupid made her feel smart. that is the only reason for bullying, insecurity in the bully. just remember that. I actually did go to my manager about this person and came to find out others were having issues with her too, 2 weeks later she was let go.
