General Education courses expiry?

Published

Hi

just wondering for how long are your general education credits good for? Do they expire after a while?

I went to a private 4 year nursing school 5 years ago and withdrew from the university after completing about 95 credits. Are my general education credits still good if I go back to that school?

thanks

The credits don't expire. I have classes from the 90s, and I just graduated. They can also be transferred.

You could ask the school just to make double sure on that. GE shouldn't be a big deal though. The sciences on the other hand could expire like anatomy, physiology, microbiology.

It depends on the courses. I went to a university in the late 90s, and now I'm going to a community college. The CC accepted my psych, eng 101, and that sort of thing, but they made me retake bio and chem because they require that those classes were taken within the past 5 years. just have the new school do an audit of your transcripts.

As others have said your general classes, English, writing , Psyc, and such will still be good, I had classes from 16 years ago that where accepted along with being to apply for my general associated this summer after I had qualified for it 7 years prior. For the core sciences, math and if your school has you do pharm before entering the nursing program you will need to see what the time frame is for those. At my school the sciences are good for 8 years, but even so if it has been awhile since you have taken anatomy or physiology it could be in your best interest to take the class again, since there likely be things that you would need to refresh on, and this knowledge is the foundation for your nursing classes. Talk with an advisor so that you can develop a plan of what classes you need to take and good luck on coming back :)

I graduated 20 years ago and my gen-ed credits were still good when I decided to go back to school. Unfortunately, I was forced to re-take all my sciences because they were older than 5 years. I had to laugh because that included Microbiology and I was a Microbiology major! LOL :)

Generally math & sciences expire after 5 years. Your school that you are applying to should have an official policy.

it's the same at my school...all of your sciences expire after 5 years...the rest are good indefinitely

Just a quickie: psych is oftentimes NOT accepted five/ten years past completion. I needed to repeat psych 101, LOL.....let's say I aced it!

Thanks everyone for your great answers, I will call my school and find out their specific policy.
