it is a bit depressing to read some of the threads on here so i decided to share my excitement. this week i received my beautiful littman stethoscope - in plum of course! i was so excited...still am. i have bought my shoes, scrubs, pen light, scissors, and bp cuff. not to mention the little items. i am so pumped up and ready to go. most likely i am stupid for not having some fear, but i can find none. i feel somewhat like a kid in a candy shop. i can't wait to wear and use all my new items. i can't wait to impact the lives of those in need of a gentle touch. i can't wait to hold that certification in my hands. i am a 40 year old woman, had a successful career, and yet i still feel like this is one of the most important and satisfying life changes i have made. i know the next two years will deflate some of my enthusiasm, but today i am proud and as happy as a 2yo with my hand in the cookie jar.

*wine here's to all of the newbie's getting ready to start on this exciting journey. keep the joy!!

Ok classes start on Monday and my excitement is now at a ridiculous fever pitch. I got my books, which I think I need accident ins. on because they are so heavy. It was so exciting to tear into them and smelling that crisp paper which is soon to highlighted and grubby. I also bought a pda this week and software from Skyscape. Let's hope it is worth the money and pray that I don't drop or lose it! Best luck to all of you....keep your eyes on the prize!

Congrats on the beginning of a wonderful new career. I myself am getting ready to graduate in December and have learned that you must continue to keep yourself motivated when all of the negativity attempts to bring you down. Remind yourself daily of why you decided to do what you do and you will remain joyful.

Here's to absolutely contagious enthusiasm! Great post, OP! :yeah:

I'm glad I'm not the only one so excited! It has been a total count down for me. We start classes on Tuesday and I am more than prepared! I have my uniforms, shoes, steth, books, etc... I am already two weeks into my reading... tell me that doesn't make me a nerd! :) They told us if we weren't prepared for class on the first day we would be behind, but when I read on the syllabi that on the 3rd week we would have 13 chapters to learn, I decided to jump right in so that it wouldn't be so overwhelming, and I can pace myself through all the material!

I'm still not scared! It's all so facinating and I can't wait to be "in it!"

Good luck to us all!!!

I am so happy to see someone as excited as me!!!!! Today (Aug. 21)was my first day of nursing school. I couldn't sleep last night due to all of the excitement. Oddly enough my first day was a clinical day. I had such a wonderful time. It was absolutely fabulous to go to clinicals and meet the people I will be spending so much time with over the next two years. Good luck to all you 2010 grads. :grad:

I was excited at the beginning of this week, but now I'm super nervous and a little scared of clinicals.

Specializes in CVICU, CPCU, Cath Lab/IR.

It is so great to see how many people feel the same way I do. I start class on Tuesday. I have read the first two chapters as well as answered the questions in the study guide, followed by outlining the key terms. I figured what time is better than the present to start reading?

My first day of class will also be clinical, but I think we go into lecture/theory. They told us we wouldn't need our scrubs for seven weeks, I was kind of looking forward to wearing them!

Good luck to everyone! We all know how serious this decision is and we will all be there helping each other through it!

I am excited for school to start also, only 2 weeks! Good luck to all students out there, keep your head high and press through it all!

We had oreintation on Tuesday and they told us that we had to come to lab in scrubs, which means I will be wearing them 3 days a week! They also told us to put our hair up, cut our nails, minimal makeup, one pair of small stud earrings only, hide all tatoos, have on all white nursing shoes with socks or hose, no cell phones, gum, etc. I think I am in the army! If we fail to do these things you will get a write up. It was rather funny watching on of the ladies lamenting over her fake nails. She made a big deal out of being a hairdresser and how she needed her nails. I told her she was going to be a nurse now so chop chop...lol
