SSACI nursing scholarship
Mrs. Frog, It states SSACI 2008-2009 GRANT NOTIFICATION You do not show financial need according to state program rules. See "General Eligibility Requirements" and "Information about State Grants' sections on reverse side. Awards may be revised or withdrawn based on your actual enrollments an/or verification of you FAFSA and other application materials. (blah Blah Blah) Does that help answer your question? As I said before I did not apply because I knew I would not get help...even though I need it, which stinks. I get to spend a long time paying back all the loans I am receiving now after graduation.

Dreadlocks?
My handbook makes me think they might say something to you. You have to have your hair pulled back if it is long. You can't have fake or long nails. You have to wear hose!! What the heck! They stress all day long to look professional. So that said....I don't see dreadlocks being considered professional, but who knows. Not to mention I don't think I have ever seen a medical professional with dreadlocks. Goodk luck to you in your program.

SSACI nursing scholarship
I received a notification from them two days ago telling me that I was not eligible. I didn't even apply for it. So my school must have. I do know students at Columbus have received it.

Ivy Tech uniforms
Where I am attending they require that you wear hunter green Landau scrubs. If the same is required at your school you could purchase them somewhere else as long as it is the same brand and style. I noticed on Allheart.com that they had some larger size scrubs that are made by Landau. Good luck finding some.

Here is a crazy question
I have a Samsonite rolling backpack and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I killed myself in my previous job lugging things around in a shoulder bag. Not worth it. Not to mention some of those books are insanely heavy!! My bag now is light empty and never falls over like some bags do. It is my moving office. In fact I have noticed quite a few people using them now. However I really could care less what others think of me. I am not there for them.

Ivy Tech - ASN question
I had credits from two separate colleges accepted by Ivy Tech. They usually need to be within the last 10 years, however you can write a letter to the Dean to reconsider. Good luck on your journey.

Is this really doable?
Nursing school will always be there. The first year of your child's life will not be. Do you really want to miss out on those special moments? I personally was so exhausted that first six months that I couldn't think straight half the time. I believe that being a parent is the most important job we have. I really feel for you. I know nursing school is competative and it forces many of us to make hard decisions. I know women who have made it with a baby. In fact two women in my class that are pregnant right now. So it can be done. I am just so glad it is not me doing it. I know that being 34 makes you feel the need to do this right away, but I am 40 and just starting. Heck half the class is older women. So don't let your age factor into it. That is my 2 cents for all it is worth. I wish you the best and congratulations!

Ivy Tech ? about TEAS cut off scores/pre req grades
My total point average was 194 and I was given an alternate position. Today at oreintation I found out that I got in! Yeah! I am so excited. They stated that this was the smartest class they have had in 10 years. They did have over 10 people refuse their spot so I got in. They actually sent out several more alternate letters to some people that were denied a spot before. Congrats to all those that are in and keep on fighting to those still waiting.

ONE more question- a&p at ivy tech together
i spent at least 1-2 a day and more on weekends and before an exam. you have class 2 days a week so i spent from 9am-3p in class/lab. i would not suggest online, because that would be worse. it is a ton of memorization. you have to be committed to it. my son suffered, because i could not play with him and go places on weekends. i suppose if you are super smart it would not take as much, but i am an average student and i had to really work at it. if you miss one day of class it is a struggle. i have a husband and i am not working at the moment so that is the only way i could have done it. i know others in my class that was single moms and working. my hat went off to them. i really don't know how they did it. so think twice about it. to get into ivy tech you really need and a in the pre req's. i have one b and i have only made the alternate list. i know others have made it, but it is a risk.

ONE more question- a&p at ivy tech together
you can take anp 1 & 2 in the same semester. i did it in fall 2007. they are accelerated courses. you take anp 1 the first 8 weeks and anp 2 the second 8 weeks. i would not advise it unless you plan to eat sleep and breathe anp. it can be done though. i got an a in both classes. however i wouldn't advise it for everyone. good luck.

Alternate status
i wanted to thank all of you for your encouragement. i really need it. the last two weeks have been crazy. my son caught the rotavirus and was in the hospital. it was awful, but it kept my mind off of this. i have not heard anything yet. i did ask what number i was of the 12 and they said i would not find out until july 15th. friday was the deadline for accepting so i am going to be on pins and needles over the next week. i missed two weeks of my accelerated micro class so i am cramming big time. my prof is awesome. she is letting me makeup my quiz's, which means i have 4 quiz's on monday...ugh! everyone say a little pray for me. i would hate to sit out another semester. i have everything completed besides clinicals. and i would really hate to take psychology over. i got a b in it before, but with an extra 10 points for an a i should get in with no problem. ok i am rambling. thanks again!
