it is a bit depressing to read some of the threads on here so i decided to share my excitement. this week i received my beautiful littman stethoscope - in plum of course! i was so excited...still am. i have bought my shoes, scrubs, pen light, scissors, and bp cuff. not to mention the little items. i am so pumped up and ready to go. most likely i am stupid for not having some fear, but i can find none. i feel somewhat like a kid in a candy shop. i can't wait to wear and use all my new items. i can't wait to impact the lives of those in need of a gentle touch. i can't wait to hold that certification in my hands. i am a 40 year old woman, had a successful career, and yet i still feel like this is one of the most important and satisfying life changes i have made. i know the next two years will deflate some of my enthusiasm, but today i am proud and as happy as a 2yo with my hand in the cookie jar.

*wine here's to all of the newbie's getting ready to start on this exciting journey. keep the joy!!

Oh, I can SO relate to your excitement! I felt the same way in Feb 07 when I was accepted into my LPN school! I could NOT wait to start. Then I started and couldn't wait for it to end  I mean that in a good way, I wanted to get past all the "book" stuff and move on with my license in my hand and proudly claim "I am a NURSE" when asked what my career was :)

I graduated in June and started my LTC position less than 3 wks later. I still get that giddy, excited feeling each time I take my time card and scan it and the time clock reads "CT Pixie LPN" ahhh, I love those 3 little letters :)

Nursing school is a long and winding road, you will have some great days and weeks and some not so hot ones, when you hit those not so hot times, come back to your post here and remember WHY you are so excited.

I can honestly say, I more often enjoyed school than not. and I am totally enjoying working in a career I always knew was my "destined" career.

Best of luck sweetie, I'm sure you will do fine with that positive attitude.

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. I just finished CPR training today. One step closer! I am ready to shock anyone in need. Does anyone want to be my guinea pig? :D

Specializes in pediatrics.

Me too me too! Just cant wait to start. August 29 seems so far away. You know you got it bad when you open up one of your new books and exclaim, "I just love the way a new text smells!" Let's get this show on the road!!!!!!:clpty::clpty:

Specializes in ED.

I am with you also on the excitement part. I quit a great job to start going back to school to be a nurse b/c I wanted to actually LOVE my job. And I love being able to be in class/school for a specific something. Getting my undergrad degree was like being back in HS again, no real direction, just going to school b/c I thought it was the right thing to do, now 10 years later, I'm going back, but now with a PURPOSE.

I'm soooo excited. Congrats to you and everyone else!!! August 25 is right around the corner, but first, off to Hawaii for a quick vacay b/c I hear I'm gonna need it. :)

I too know the feeling...I got my penlight, stethoscope, scissors, shoes...You name it...I got it...I feel your excitement......YAY!!!

I am so excited too. I have orientation tomorrow and then going to spend all my gift certificates at the medical store. I can't wait. I have had those gift cards since Christmas and they have been burning a hole in my pocket.

I'm right there with you. I bought all my books and wow are there a lot of books! I finished CPR on Saturday and my uniforms, stehescope, BP cuff and skills kit should be here any day now. I start school in two weeks. I can't wait!!!

Specializes in Neuro.

I am excited! I am buying my supplies one at time because I have a tight budget, but every time I get to buy something new I get giddy. I've been in nursing school for a year but in our program, we don't start clinicals until fall of the year after you were accepted. I love my books. I named my stethoscope.

I'm a bit of a nerd.

Haha.

Specializes in Critical Care.

I can totally relate!

I look in my closet and see my clinical outfit with my Littman on it and I look at my bookcase and I start to get teary. After 4 semesters of rejection, I am finally able to move on with my life.

I am such a nerd (hence my name) I have read the 1st 2 chapters that were outlined in the syllabus. I have been working on the theory objectives and watching the skills CD. I am going to be so ready.... Bring it on !!

Specializes in dreams of the future.

Awww I totally love this thread.:heartbeat It is so nice to hear others with the same excitement. It's that sniffing a new box of crayons feeling of delight.

Specializes in ER, ICU, Medsurg.

I'm with ya'll too.....I'm excited albeit I'm a little nervous that I'm NOT nervous. With all the posts and horror stories I feel like I should be scared but I'm just not. I'm really looking forward to all this new knowledge and new skills we'll learn. Good luck to us all

ME TOO....I feel EXACTLY the same way!

I am 47, have also had a very successful career and have my life in order. I'm scheduled for orientation on 9/3 and school starts on the 23rd. I have very few things left to buy, but one thing I did buy early was the Saunders Compreshensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination. After reading MANY posts and talking with a second year nursing student, I decided to buy this bad boy early! It's packed with information that I believe will be extremely helpful going forward. The book is well organized, comes with a CD which provides extra questions, and includes a chapter on test-taking strategies. OK, so I might be 47 with my life in order but I do suffer from test anxiety.

Congratulations to us! And when we need a little encouragement or have questions,,,,THIS SITE is the place to go. :yeah:

Dreams do come true and He leads the way. :heartbeat Philippians 4:13
