GCU 2014 Summer

Anybody else going to be applying? I'm a long shot because I'm applying without all my courses completed, they will be done in the Spring.

That is insane! I'm so glad I took the TEAS. I got a 72 on my reading and a 94 on the math. I have a 4.0 so I'm hoping that's what holds up my reading score. The new test looks like they're trying to make it more and more competitive. Good luck everyone! I'm sure things will look good for us all. I wonder if we find out Feb 15 or Feb 29 now that the Teas date has been changed? Anyone know?

Apparently the last admission into St. Joes the avg gpa is 3.2, so I'm a little less stressed because that was a lot lower than I expected.

An

Was the average gpa just for science or for the regular classes?? I take it this for the fall admission.

Hello hsimons38!

I just started Block 1 in January at GCU-Boswell, and it is my understanding that they look at your GPA as follows:

1) They evaluate the GPA of all of the required pre-req courses (sciences, english etc.) to make sure you meet the overall minimum GPA requirements. This is also the GPA they will use to evaluate qualification for academic-based scholarships; and

2) They specifically look at your science GPA as another factor for admission. Not sure how this is weighted, but say you have a science GPA that is better than your overall pre-req GPA (for instance, my science GPA was better than my overall pre-req GPA) - this is a positive factor in your favor, however, I am not sure how much they weigh this in terms of all the other criteria, i.e. TEAS score, overall GPA, whether you have a prior degree, current hospital affiliation, etc.

Hope this answers your question, and good luck to all of you! If anyone has any questions re: the program, feel free to PM me.

Cheers :-)

Hi! I am planning on applying for fall start date at GCU. I had a question about the entrance exam information I am reading about here. I asked my adviser about a week ago if they had the information on the new entrance exam yet, and she stated that the info was not yet available and that as soon as it was she would let me know. So I guess I am wondering where the information is coming from about the HESI test (as well as the info about what sections are required for it). I had told her I would like to know what test to start preparing for since the TEAS was no longer going to be used. Thanks in Advance!

I talked to my adviser about the teas and he said the final date was the 1/16. I even have a email he sent to all the fall applicants in Tucson......So now I'm confused. And the adviser at GCU also told me the new test would be the Hesi A2 version. So ill have to call and figure this out.

This is straight from the handbook, So we will see if the get more updated information.

Complete the nursing entrance exam.

• Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 – Students will be required to complete the Test of

Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) with a minimum score of 70 in both the math

and reading sections. Students may take the TEAS test up to four (4) times

(initial test, with three (3) additional attempts).

• Summer 2014 and forward – Students will be required to complete the Health

Education Systems, Inc (HESI) in place of TEAS. Applicants must take all

sections listed here: Math, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary & General

Knowledge, Grammar, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Learning Styles, and

Personality Profiles. No minimum score is required. Students can take the test

once.

Just curious, what scholarships became available during the nursing program? @MrsBond

ryleea1, from what I was told all students get awarded a scholarship of varying amounts based on GPA when you are accepted and the award amount is subject to change based on your GPA every semester (higher GPA = larger scholarship amount). The scholarship is automatically awarded from GCU.. no need to worry about filling an application out or anything!

This. I know when I was first looking at GCU I attended an information session and the packet of information I received talked about the scholarships. You can certainly check with your adviser once you get your acceptance to clarify the scholarship info, but it is something that will be applied to your account automatically if you meet the requirements.

omg... i am going crazy with the wait until feb. 15th :(

As a former graduate of GCU the scholarship is automatically applied. Also if you currently work for a hospital ask your financial advisor about a discount. Depending on the facility GCU will give you a 20% discount of tuition. You can only choose the scholarship or discount.

ICULINDA, thanks for the heads up! Does that 20% discount just come off of the total tuition charges every semester? I am a contracted employee at Chandler Regional Medical Center so I wonder if I would be eligible for the discount. Also can you choose either the discount or scholarship every semester or does that choice stay the same throughout your time at GCU once you choose?
