GCU Summer 2015 hopefuls!

Hello GCU summer applicants!

I figured someone else would have started a thread by now, but since they haven't I figured I would since the deadline is approaching in less than 2 weeks! I just wanted to know how everyone's application experience is going so far? Hopefully we can answer each others questions and this thread can serve as a place to share experiences especially while waiting for decisions.

I have my background check completed, my fingerprinting is in process, and I'm taking the HESI this week. I am super nervous!

I can't wait to hear from any of you who are applying! Don't be shy :) and good luck everyone!

Jsweet14 there is still time for the CEP program. The deadline isn't until July (I believe but you should double check). My main frustration is that I could have completed the classes necessary for the CEP program had they told us WAY earlier that this was possible. Plus the CEP program is longer but maybe that's a good thing. It won't be so compacted and fast paced. Idk...I'm trying to see this as a blessing in disguise.

Yeah if you can get in to a CEP program for the fall, you'll be graduating like 9 months after GCU (May 2017 vs August 2016) which isn't terrible. I wish you could stack the accelerated AAS with the BSN but they don't allow it. But the timing allows more time for you to work so I guess that is a benefit.

CEP application are due the beginning of June (an actual date hasn't been set yet) you have to be on the wait list and go to an CEP information session before your able to sign up for the CEP application session. Just a little info for you guys on that route, I'm so sorry you guys are having to deal with this bull.

I don't know too much about the cep program but all I have heard is that there is a long wait list to be able to even apply. Is that true?

I'm turning in my application this Friday. If you're going the NAU route, you can apply with up to 7 NAU prereqs in progress. Once the app is in then you'll be able to sign up for the CEP info session and CEP application session. The term would be Fall 2015-spring 2018. You'd graduate with your ASSOC. Fall 2017 and then finish the last two BSN classes at NAU in the spring of 2018. If you go the fast track route, you still graduate fall 2017.

The long wait is for just the Associate only, CEP doesn't have a wait yet. They have been able to place anyone that applies to the CEP for the following semester. So if you apply in June for the university you want to do the CEP with and they accept you, you will start with them in fall and start maricopa in the following spring.

My best friends has a friend who goes to GCU who applied for summer and had a meeting this morning. She said the the dean or director of nursing walked out a month ago and things just went down hill and they couldn't get ahead, they fell drastically behind and so they cancelled the program.

She also told me that all the fast track programs will remain open for Fall, but it mostly will change in the future for next year probably 2016 like Maycation said.

Hi all. I am a current nursing student at one of the off campus sites. Just want to reiterate what Amber just stated is true. Dean of nursing left along with a large quantity of staff. This all went down in the fall of 2014 and ever since there have been difficulties with finding staff to replace those who left. They are also having trouble getting enough clinical instructors for our clinicals. Numerous clinicals have been cancelled and they are scrambling to try and ensure everyone in the current program gets the required/missed clinical hours that they need to graduate. It's been a whirlwind, and the transition has been very difficult. We are all in the dark as to what truly is going on and have all been concerned. I am very sad by what I have read here about the potential cancellation for summer classes. I simply cannot imagine being in your shoes, especially those of you on pins and needles hoping to get accepted. I'm disappointed that we may not get a new group of baby lopes. :( This is actually news to me as we just assumed there'd be a new group of students starting May 4th. Nothing has been said to us about it. I will say that the staff that is still involved is dedicated and working overtime to make sure we get the education we paid for. They have been saints and are all superhero's in my opinion. I don't know what is going on in the higher ups, but those staff that teach and man our clinicals are absolutely amazing. I know that doesn't help any of you in your current situation, but I wanted to just put that out there. Again, I am so very sorry for what is going on and hope that things are made right for all of you ASAP. I will be continuing to follow this thread as I am eager to hear what you all find out.

Im glad that for the current students they are making sure that your guys needs are meet it would be even worse to hear that they were not taking care of the current commitments. However I think it is extremely unprofessional that they decided to tell us 4 weeks before classes were supposed to start that there would not be a summer program. They could have informed us that something was going on so that people who were pretty much told they would be accepted would be able look at other options. We have all been just waiting around beyond stressed out to find out if we got accepted when come to find out there was nothing for us to get accepted to. They have pretty much made it clear that as transfer students applying for the fall will be extremely difficult, I don't know about anyone else but I applied for Summer because that is when they accept the most transfer students.

They should put summer applicants on the priority list for the Fall, if there even is going to be a fall... If they get rid of the satellite campuses, how many people are going to lose their jobs? I don't know why the Dean of Nursing left, but if she had to deal with these people who are currently running things, I would leave too.

Yeah well from the sounds of it they do not plan on doing anything to try and make it right for all of us who applied for the Summer. You would think that they would feel some sort of guilt or at least feel bad about what they have put all of us through but they honestly do not seem to care one bit.
