GCU Summer 2015 hopefuls!

Published

Hello GCU summer applicants!

I figured someone else would have started a thread by now, but since they haven't I figured I would since the deadline is approaching in less than 2 weeks! I just wanted to know how everyone's application experience is going so far? Hopefully we can answer each others questions and this thread can serve as a place to share experiences especially while waiting for decisions.

I have my background check completed, my fingerprinting is in process, and I'm taking the HESI this week. I am super nervous!

I can't wait to hear from any of you who are applying! Don't be shy :) and good luck everyone!

Better question... How much money are they losing?

There has to be more to the story....it wouldn't be in THEIR best interest either for them to simply cancel the program

They had been planning on cancelling the fast-track/summer program in the future (like Spring 2016 at the earliest), but apparently it is happening sooner. I am not sure why they have been wanting to cancel it. It may be because they want their program to be more selective or because they want more people to take their pre-reqs there, hence why they are saying that they need to pay so much attention to THEIR STUDENTS as opposed to the transfers. Whatever the reason, they really screwed us over by having us apply and then waiting months to tell us that it was cancelled.

So this was like a for sure deal already? Just timing was off?

No, apparently they had just been talking about it, but it wasn't like a sure thing especially for the summer or even the fall. I mean we all applied, so obviously they made us think that they were having the program.

Ohh okay I understand. Yeah they should have given at leat a whole year heads up

I really don't know all the facts, but that is just my interpretation from all of the stuff I heard today.

Hopefully we can get some answers tomorrow.

So is only the summer session cancelled, and if so are you forwarded as The Class of the next session???

I hope you can find out, how very disappointing...

I personally feel like we aren't getting the whole truth and once again they are beating around the bush and being very vague about things like they have been through this entire process. I don't understand how a school that is for-profit would do this as it seems they will be losing a lot of money, which is exactly why I think there is more to the story. Their supposed reasoning was because they couldn't "acquire spots" for the summer so they were going to focus their efforts on fall. Which I don't quite understand what they mean by that at all. It is clear that they don't care what they are doing or have done and they have simply handled all of this the completely wrong way, which they have got to know.

Since this is the way it's been handled, I highly doubt that they will transfer all the transfer students to their main campus class in the fall - seems HIGHLY unlikely. I was told by my advisor early on in the process that they were drastically cutting down on the amount of transfer students they would be accepting in the fall, so it looks like they decided to do it early.

Also for whoever was asking about the math: based on the number of people they normally admit x the tuition estimate its around $6mil that they're loosing from the summer session. Pretty surprising that they're ready to turn away that revenue - things must be in dire shape for that to happen.

6 million wow that's insane and exactly why I feel like there is more to the story. Through the whole process I was told all the waiting was because they were short staff so the story keeps changing. I mean there is nothing we can do about it now we've all already made fools out of ourselves it feels like. It's just really unfortunate that we had to wait so long to find out because I'm sure we all have had other options that we passed on because we had hoped that this was a good option that would work out and now basically all the other deadlines have passed.
