GCU Summer 2015 hopefuls!
Accreditation doesn't have to be an issue of speculation as it can easily be looked into. Here is the accreditation page for all BSN degree programs in AZ. It looks as if they are up for renewal in the next year though. http://directory.ccnecommunity.org/reports/rptAccreditedPrograms_New.asp?state=AZ&sFullName=Arizona&sProgramType=1

I agree that stringing you all along like this is flat out wrong.

GCU Summer 2015 hopefuls!
No I don't know why, we are just all left to speculate. Most of us think the issues are from way above the nursing program itself. From the higher ups in the university. But I cannot emphasize enough that it is all speculation. We really don't know anything.

GCU Summer 2015 hopefuls!
Hi all. I am a current nursing student at one of the off campus sites. Just want to reiterate what Amber just stated is true. Dean of nursing left along with a large quantity of staff. This all went down in the fall of 2014 and ever since there have been difficulties with finding staff to replace those who left. They are also having trouble getting enough clinical instructors for our clinicals. Numerous clinicals have been cancelled and they are scrambling to try and ensure everyone in the current program gets the required/missed clinical hours that they need to graduate. It's been a whirlwind, and the transition has been very difficult. We are all in the dark as to what truly is going on and have all been concerned. I am very sad by what I have read here about the potential cancellation for summer classes. I simply cannot imagine being in your shoes, especially those of you on pins and needles hoping to get accepted. I'm disappointed that we may not get a new group of baby lopes. This is actually news to me as we just assumed there'd be a new group of students starting May 4th. Nothing has been said to us about it. I will say that the staff that is still involved is dedicated and working overtime to make sure we get the education we paid for. They have been saints and are all superhero's in my opinion. I don't know what is going on in the higher ups, but those staff that teach and man our clinicals are absolutely amazing. I know that doesn't help any of you in your current situation, but I wanted to just put that out there. Again, I am so very sorry for what is going on and hope that things are made right for all of you ASAP. I will be continuing to follow this thread as I am eager to hear what you all find out.

CNA at 17 & RN at 19
Yes it is possible, and yes people will take you seriously as long as you take yourself and your career seriously. There is a young gal of 18 in my cohort, graduating with her BSN in December with the rest of us. (She will be 19 by then) She is very capable and I would feel safe in her hands if she were my nurse. For those of you wondering about pre-reqs, in some cases, a junior and senior in high school could be taking community college classes and meeting requirements for an AA or AS degree while meeting requirements for diploma in HS. If they have pre-req's done when they graduate, it is not impossible to graduate nursing at age 19 if they enter a fast track program.

It is automatically issued through the school based on GPA. If you visit the GCU website, it will explain it very thoroughly.

Nursing and homeschooling 3 kids
I haven't been in your situation, but I have three kids nearly the same ages as yours. 13, 10 and 7 and they still need help with homework and after school activities and such and I don't have a MIL or mom that lives near to help. However, I do have a husband who works from home so he is around. I still tend to my kids during the afternoons until they are in bed and then settle down to school work. It really is just a matter of almost micro-managing your time, and being cautious to schedule in everything so you are always able to keep track and stay on top of things. I am in a fast track BSN program, and got a 4.0 my first block which wasn't easy but clearly doable. There will probably be things that you typically love to do in your spare time that will have to be put aside for the sake of school and family, but I firmly believe there is room for both. Good luck! I think with the ample support you have it shouldn't be a problem. :)

GCU nursing scholarships for BSN students
That's too bad that it will drop. My total tuition for the program will be around 28,000.00 after the scholarship is taken into account. Without the scholarship, a good ballpark guess is around 40,000.00.

GCU nursing scholarships for BSN students
I just finished block 1 at GCU. I have a current scholarship of 3500.00 off per semester (7000.00 a year) for having come into the program with a GPA over 3.7. My understanding is that the scholarship will be the same for the second year if I maintain a GPA over 3.5 during the program. As far as how summer semester works, I am still not totally sure as I won't be experiencing that until this next summer.

Gcu fall 2014 hopefuls
I would describe it very similar to the way scrub girl has described it except that it isn't disorganized at my campus. They have been doing the new curriculum for about two semesters already and seem to have it figured out. But yeah...the rest is true. It is nothing like pre-req's. For one, your work is never finished. You will never have a moment where you are "caught up" and can chill for a couple of days. It's more than a full time job since weekends are spent doing the bulk of work (since weekdays are taken up with classes). The material you are taught is much more interesting than pre-req'a IMO, which makes it stick easier, but it is A LOT!! I cannot emphasize how much information they pour into our minds. My saving grace has been my calendar. I put everything into it..including what pages I plan to read and when. That way I get to physically "check" things off and pace myself in manageable way. I'm using it to "plan ahead" so that I don't end up one weekend with several papers while trying to study for an upcoming test. For instance, I plan to do all the busy work (papers, modules, and such) this weekend for the next two weeks, because I know next weekend I will want to use the whole time to study for my first two exams. (which I am also doing little by little as I go along as well.) With all that said, I love it. It's fun! I love my cohort. Everyone is so sweet and interesting and fun to get to know. I feel like I have known them for months, but it's only been two weeks. It's so crazy that at the end of the very first week, we couldn't remember if it had been one or two weeks since we started...lol. Anyway, that sums up first impressions of my experience thus far. :)

I'd love to hear more about it but only IF you have the time. :) If not, I totally understand.

Gcu fall 2014 hopefuls
I saw that about the scrubs, which is what totally threw me off. ugh... Also, I think that Friday is Pharm lecture only. The skills lab is an open lab time the rest of the day friday to practice anything that needs practicing.

Go to the section for each class on the front page labeled "announcements". That is where the instructors introduce themselves and post things they want us to take a look at. That is where I found the calendar that was broken down by dates.
