Verah interesting........

Looks to me like it's a separate application process. Don't know what the wait list is like for it, but for those of you on the waitlist for the RN program, it might not hurt to apply here too. You qualify.

Maricopa skills center also had a LPN program. 14 months in duration, hours are from 8:30am-1:30pm. There is no CNA requirement if I am correct. I spoke with them and they said it was no longer a Pre-req. Im not sure of the cost as they will not give info over the phone. You have to attend an information session for all info. I am going to take this route and then continue my Pre-req's as I work as an LPN. This will be a better way for me and my family.

Actually you DO have to have your CNA for the LPN program. That was only eliminated for the RN programs. There is no wait list for the LPN program at Gateway or at Maricopa Skills Center. I'm taking my CNA class in January and then applying for the LPN program at Gateway in June, for their August program.

Thanks for finally posting on this!!!

So there is NO (!!!!) wait list for the LPN program at Gateway!! I will also have my CNA done Spring Semester then apply in March. Are you planning on going on to get your RN?

CNA is a pre-req for Gateway's LPN program but NOT for the Maricopa Skill Center. There isn't a waiting list for either but you might wait a semester or two to get into the Skill Center Program. For instance, I just gave in my application for the LPN program at the Maricopa Skill Center and the next available class in March/April is full and their next opening is August which I will most likely get into. The Skill Center I believe costs more than Gateway but financial aid is available. Hope this helps.

After taking a look at the LPN pre-reqs it looks like 4 credits on top of the CNA is required. I feel like there has to be a catch or a pitfall here. If once I complete the LPN and have my pre-reqs completed for the RN program I can move right into Block 3, why would anyone not go the LPN to RN route? At first I understood it because of the cost of Skill Centers being more for 1 year than for the entire RN course, but now that I know more about Gateway's program I'm really confused.

Does anyone have insight, input, or advice?

I've been looking for the quickest and most financially possible route of going to nursing school, and this looks almost like it's too good to be true.

The only pre-req for the Gateway program is the CNA. What's on the website is outdate. I called last month and they verified this. The cost is what is beneficial in my opinion. For around $3K(probably less) you can get your LPN and then get right into block 3. I'd suggest finding a job first though and then letting your employer pay your way to your R.N....I know LPN's making $30 an hour.....

Sassiebaz,

Do they have a wait list? If so do you know how long?

I think that I'm going to be applying here, too. I just called and the admissions person told me the same thing they told sassiebaz. The only thing that kind of gets to me is that they won't tell me how competitive it is or what the selection criteria is. In any case, I think I'll be applying February/March for the August class and we'll see what happens. It can't hurt to apply, especially since come the August class I'll already have my pre-reqs and co-reqs done for the RN program so I could just jump from the LPN program to Block 3. ...only seems to make sense to apply...

jess,

did they happen to tell you if they were going to have a day and night class like their spring 09 class? also, can you explain how it works to get in block 3 with your lpn, i know you have to have your prerequesites done, but how do you apply? where can you apply, to all the cc's? gosh, i wish there were some place on the maricopa cc's website that answered these questions. but i appreciate any and all answers you are able to give.

I didn't think to ask about day and night classes since they haven't even printed their application yet for the August '09 class.

To get into Block 3 you can apply to any community college as far as I know with their advanced placement application. You just need to make sure that you have your pre-reqs and co-reqs for advancement into Block 3 complete.
