  1. hello, i'm assuming you spoke with an advisor who is extremely discouraging in regard to that program but don't let that get to you! i just started the lpn fast track program at gateway so i will do my best to try and answer your questions. * i would like to know what the pre req's are for this program? the pre-req's that i had to take were terminology, hcc130 and i also had to go through the cna program (2 classes). you also need to make sure that you have your fingerprint card, cpr cert, as well as all of your vaccinations. * what the wait list is like? there wasn't a wait list this year but i'm told that they already have 40 applications for the spring semester. it's true that some of the spots will be filled by companies, such as cigna, but there are always a few spots left, usually anywhere form 5-8 is what i was told when i applied. * is this an accelerated program? thus, fast track. this is not an accelerated program. the reason it is called fast track is because you don't have to have all of the pre-req's completed that you need for the rn program, like a&p chem. micro, etc.. * do they offer financial aid for this program? they offer financial aid for all of their programs. this program also has a day program and a night & weekend program.* what is the schedule like? clinical schedule? i am in the night & weekend program and we are in class on tuesday & thursday nights from 5:30-8:50, and our lab is on saturdays from 8-4 right now. that will change when we go to clinicals to 6:45 a.m. until 7:15 p.m. i have been in this program for 3 weeks now and i absolutely love it! the instructors are awesome! a word of advice, if you want to get real information contact the nursing coordiantor for the program. she is extremely helpful. i will give you her phone # if you would like to pm me. wouldn't feel right posting it. hope this helps! don't give up and don't get discouraged! best of luck to you! hang in there!
  2. I have no idea what the state laws are in California. She said that she was in AZ and so that information that I posted only pertained to AZ. I know that as a CNA here in Phoenix we cannot insert or remove any tubing from a patient, we can not pass ANY meds, we can not dc IV's or insert foleys, etc. We are only allowed, by law to provide simple patient care, such as bed baths, undergarment changes, feeding of patients, vitals, and glucose monitoring. Even dressing changes are technically out of our scope of practice. Hopefully she will look into the state laws regarding a CNA's scope of practice if she is indeed in AZ. I would hate to see her get into trouble for performing procedures that we are not allowed to do.
  3. Hi, I am in my last 2 weeks of CNA classes in Phoenix and let me just say this, your uncle is way off. You would have to take 2 semesters of classes plus clinicals to get your LPN and then you would have about 9 pre-req classes (approx. 32 credit hours) to take, prior to even being able to apply for the RN program. Plus, there is only 1 community college that offers a LPN program in Phoenix. There is also the Maricopa Skill Center and they offer only an LPN program. Here is a link to Community College Nursing programs inAZ. Hope this helps. http://www.pc.maricopa.edu/index.php?page=29&subpage=729
  4. Actually you DO have to have your CNA for the LPN program. That was only eliminated for the RN programs. There is no wait list for the LPN program at Gateway or at Maricopa Skills Center. I'm taking my CNA class in January and then applying for the LPN program at Gateway in June, for their August program.
  5. Well, Thank you all for the stories and support. I'm moving forward with it. I'm going to invest in some peppermint oil and compression stockings! LOL
  6. Hi, I posted this question on a different thread but I probably should have put it on here. I REALLY want to be a nurse, but I have a history of almost hurling and almost passing out when it comes to certain things. I was watching a procedure being done on my sister once. She was having Norplants removed, and yep, I nearly hit the ground and didn't even know it. Had to remove myself from the room and sit with my head between my legs for about 10 minutes. Has anyone else had this problem? Wanting to be a nurse but worried you're to squimish?? Please let me know how to overcome it, or how you overcame it, if so! I'm highly stressed about it. Thanks!
  7. I actually called Gateway and Maricopa Skill Center and of course neither one of them said anything about a 6 month grace period. Oh Well. Thanks for all the input.
  8. Actually they are transferable. In fact once you complete the LPN program, you can go right into block 3 of the RN program, as long as your pre-req's have been completed.
  9. Gateway Community College. http://www.gatewaycc.edu/
  10. So how did you get past the dizziness? Can you PM me and give me some pointers? What made you decide on nursing if you were squeamish to that extent? Thanks!
  11. Well Welcome to AZ! I'm sure it will be a great experience for you! Although I'm not THAT familiar with Chandler, I am an AZ native so if you have any questions, feel free! Tanya
  12. LOL, Man I hope so! I don't want to be "That Girl" that passes out during a surgery. Thanks for the input! It's helpful to know that other people had the same struggles.
  13. Mostly needles and open wounds. I'm more worried that I am going to pass out during clinicals, once I begin. Does anyone else feel like this? Every nurse I talk to seems to be steady and unaffected by these aspects of nursing. I think maybe it takes a special breed of person to be able to deal with seeing these things on a daily basis and not be as effected by them. Maybe I am just not that breed? I am just wondering if anyone else started out being concerned about this problem and eventually got over it? If so to what extent were they effected by it and how did they manage to get over it. I really want to be a nurse, but this is a big issue for me that is making me second guess my decision. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for writing me back nlctmrk107b!
