Hey guys, Im thinking of applying to another school as backup while I wait for my first choice. Aparently i have to take the NET. I know a bunch of you have taken or are preparing to take this test this year. Ive been searching for info and not finding what I want. According to the schools website, it tests on math, reading comp, something about studying skills, stress level, social interaction, stress level and learning style.
Any thoughts or comments about this in regards to the test, level of difficulty. Its going to be on the computer.
There also seem to several study guides out there, and the school provided a link that doesn't work, can anyone recommend the book i should go out and get, hopeing to get it tomorrow as the next possible test i can take is May 5th.
I appologize in advance for repeating a topic, im still searching, but i figured i'd ask anyway.

If you want a book, check your local Borders or Barnes and Noble....I was looking at a local vocational school a few years and she suggested I would need it for their entrance requirement....on a whim I went in at the end of that week and took it. I think I broke out an old algebra book or Cliff's notes for algebra I had around here and reviewed it....otherwise, it was reading comprehension, and just kind of basic stuff....she said they'd never seen such a high score (I think she was buttering me up).
I am not the brightest bulb on the tree....I am 51, but have always had English, reading, writing, etc., as a strong suit....I did the algebra review as math is NOT my strength area...it started, as I recall, with your basics -- adding, subtracting, multiplication, etc., to decimals, fractions, then some basic algebra stuff, then I think I was out of time or done or whatever...
Again, I didn't find it to be rocket science and unless you're rolling in the dough, see if a local bookseller has the book in the store to look at before you plop down a ton of money for it....you'll get the chance to buy PLENTY of books when you start NS. I never did find anything of use online -- for free. Might also check your local library....good luck!!

This is the book you should get if you can:

It's the best one for this test which coincedentally I also need to take this summer. All answers are multiple choice. Compared to the NLN it is a piece of cake so have no fear. I would read through the book and do all the practice tests. There are 2 of each. My guess is you will need a few hours tops to do well on this test.
The test is reading comp and basic math with a tad of algebra...no geometry. Some schools have an additional test on written expression...who/whom, etc. so check with your school. My school doesn't have this section. Other schools have a reading rate test where you read for a minute and then answer some questions. This part won't count towards your score, but you should ask if it will be there so you have no surprises that day to throw you. Last I heard my school does have this one.
You then have 4 sections that also don't count...stress level, testtaking skills, social interaction, and learning style. These are all agree/disagree or multiple choice. Hope this helps sweetie!!
If you want I will mail you mine as my test isn't until July at the soonest. You would just need to mail it back to me when you are done with it. Let me know!!
wdwpixie: Thank so much for your response, i'll definately keep your words in mind.
Batman to the rescue!!! You rock but don't you dere part with your book, i can get one delievered to me, don't worry about it my dear, thanks so much for the jesture though. I was look at the same book online but i wasn't sure if it was the right one.
Im gonna put in an order for it right now, and call tomorrow and schedule the test I have two dates left to take it. I don't think the reading bothers me as much as the math does, but i don't want to be cocky about that either.
I figure i might as well at least give myself another option with another school just in case my first choice falls through.

Hi!
I agree with Batman...If you've taken the NLN successfully, you will rock the NET. It's so much easier! The reading can be tricky but that's the most of it! Math is easy!
Good Luck!!!!!!

Mystix,
Try this website. http://hfcclab.info/NET/index.htm I had the book and did just fine, but I wished that I had known about this site before I took the test. The questions are just like what was on my test. Good luck~

Ive been looking at what it would take to get in. During my research I found this site: http://www.testprepreview.com/nursing_practice.htm seems like they at least have some good practice test problems to run through. questions seem somewhat harder than Blessed's site though. I dont really know much about it but I thought I would at least share what I found. :)
That is an AWESOME site! With great links to all the fundamentals behind the math. Ive been playing for hours already and in a short time it really makes you much better. Thanks a ton! This helps alot if you havent done any basic algebra in a few years and are just getting back in to doing some prereqs.
You are welcome, JDunk. I thought it was so much better than the book at explaining the math portion, and the reading is much more detailed than the book. I was very worried about the math portion, just because I had missed out on so much in HS, but it is just VERY BASIC math. The reading portion, which I am great at, is actually what was more difficult. It isn't your basic reading comprehension, it is a more scientific reading. But...it is still very doable. Don't let it scare you! Just study on the website and you will do great. I actually think that the website is much better than the book, and it is FREE!!! Bets of luck to all~
