HI Amibition2012 and Codeman5788,

I'm trying to get in the fall 2011 class and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind sharing what you made on your prereqs and any coreqs you took.

I don't know that much about SF RN program, right now I'm attending NFCC but I plan to transfer to SF in the spring. I have all my prereqs done and co reqs and will have my AA at the end of fall.

So if theres any tips or pointers you have I would much appreciate them

Specializes in CRNA - Nurse Anesthesiologist.

These were my grades and scores on the classes and tests

AnP I - C

Microbiology - A

Micro lab - B

Statistics - A

General Psych- A

English 101 - A

I'm not sure what Class I used for the fine arts/humanities class

AnP II - B

Anp II Lab - B

Nutrition - A

Developmental Psych - A

HESI

Math - 94%

Reading - 94%

My tips would be to make sure you get the best grades possible and do well on the hesi because thats where you can get the most points on your application

if you do not have high grades, make sure and take those extra classes they offer for points.

and join the SNA, thats an easy 5 points.

The application is pretty easy since its laid out for you how much everything is worth.

If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask!

Anything you could possibly need to know about improving your chances can be found here:

SFCC Nursing Associate of Science Degree

This goes through everything you need to know about what classes will give you points, and what grades, volunteer work, CNA license, etc.

I was missing three things on the points system - I'm not a veteran (3 pts.), I'm didn't meet their CNA criteria (5 pts.), and I did not apply to the program last year (10 pts.). Also, I made a B+ rather than an A in Anatomy and Physiology II.

This gave me a total of 89 points, and I got in.

This is what I did to get those points:

(NOTE - The requirements have changed a bit for next year. So don't go by what I did, this is just to give you some idea.)

EVOLVE/Reach Math - 100 (10 points)

EVOLVE/Reach Reading - 95 (10 points)

Prerequisite grades -

GPA between 3.75 and 4.00 (30 points)

A&P I - A

Micro - A

ENC 1101 - A

College Algebra - A

General Psych - A

Music Appreciation - A

"Points Courses" - Courses that earn you extra points, but aren't required. C or better.

ENC 1102 - Writing About Literature - A (2 points)

CHM 1030 - Elements of Chemistry - A (2 points)

REA 2205 - Critical Thinking and College Reading - A (2 points)

SLS 1101 - College Success (Easiest course EVER) - A (2 points)

HSC 2531 - Medical Terminology - A (2 points)

Co-requisites completed before application -

HUN 1201 - Nutrition - A (5 points)

DEP 2004 - Developmental Psych - A (5 points)

BSC 2086 - Anatomy and Physiology II - B+ (4 points)

Work Experience -

SNA Membership (5 points)

100 or more hours volunteer work (5 points)

HSC 1000 - Intro to Healthcare, C or better - A (5 points)

For those of you who are applying next year - do your vaccinations NOW. It's such a hassle to jump through those hoops after you've been accepted.

Here's the form you will have to turn in for your physical and immunizations requirements:

http://dept.sfcollege.edu/health/content/mugs/students_selected_forms/asn/Nursing%20Programs%20Physical%20and%20Immunization%20form%202010.pdf

You cannot have a doctor (or NP) complete this form more than six months before the program starts... but you CAN get your shots all caught up now so you don't have to worry about it later.

i am hoping to in for next application too.. have you gotten all of your required courses done yet? i will have most of the courses done, but i will be missing a few. i hope that won't affect me too much. i don't wanna wait another year to apply! =)

I went and talked to an advisor today to clear up a few questions I had. I told the advisor that I might not apply and they said that you should apply regardless of your points because you never know what kind of applicant pool they will have. So I'm gathering up my little bits of points here and there and jumping into the 'pool.'

daynuh carmen, and tiffany, how are you guys doin' with the checklist?

Hi gatormommy,

I am a hopeful ASN candidate as well. I am applying with around 86-88 points. I have taken almost every class - Dev Psych, Nutrition and AP 2 with all A's, pre-req GPA is a 3.67, taking Chem 1030 and expect to receive an A for my final grade. I will have 2 points each for 2 of the 2 point classes, and will have my AA degree when I apply. I received the full 20 points for the Kaplan test, and also have taken Intro to Health Care, will have an SNA membership, and have 100 hours of volunteer service. I may have more points depending on how they look at certain classes, if some count for credit for the extra classes. It all depends.

I definitely agree with applying regardless, and seeing what happens! The thing that is so great about the point system is that it is completely objective, and really, the applicant pool sets the tone. That also makes me nervous, though. Since they take around 140 people, they could take 140 people with scores above 95! How many points will you have?

Hi hopefulnurse

I dont have quite so many points, only 69. That's all I can get this year. I haven't taken classes since 2005. My last sem was A+P II, Micro and Nutrition. I got all A's in those. I took time off to have kids. I decided a little too late, this year, that I wanted to pursue nursing. I could've taken developmental psych and intro to healthcare for some more points. Oh well:rolleyes:

So..... I am definately applying with my 69 points. I figured if I don't get in this year, I may have a better chance next year after taking classes. I think the only points I wont be getting will be 100 hrs vol service, cna, veteran, and advanced reading (i really dont want to take the class).

Goodluck in the selection process. Maybe there wont be so many applicants seeing how UF wont take RN to BSN applicants right now. Although RN to BSN online isnt really helping the situation LOL.

Note to those of you wondering whether to apply if you don't think you can get in:

If you are eligible (i.e., you've completed the pre-requisites and so on), you should definitely apply this year, even if you don't have many points. The reason is that unless they change the rules, you will get an extra ten points on your second application next year.

Good luck! The program is kicking my butt right now, but it's a really amazing experience :)

PS - I can almost guarantee you there will never be 140 people will more than 95 points.
