Getting ready to take a big chunk of prereqs this summer. Here is what I have....

Summer A

College Algebra

A&P 1

Summer B

Elements of Chem (need for micro)

Humanities (undecided)

What do you think? Any suggestions welcome.

If you made it in this year, how many points did you have?

Gatormommy - did you go to a group advisement session yet? It is really helpful and should answer a lot of questions you may have! Also, they said that in your second year of nursing at Santa Fe, you can join UCF's program and get your BSN through them, or something along those lines. Sorry I don't have more info (maybe christyness will since she is in the program currently?!), I wish I had asked questions about that because I am definitely interested in that!

Christyness, thanks for the words of encouragement. I hope I have a good chance then! I would really love to do this program.

Thank you Hopefulnurse

I plan on attending an advisement session on the 22nd. Thanks for the info on that and the CNA stuff. I was interested in it for that reason. Now, I'm not sure 120hr and another $500-$600 is worth 5pts. Do you think working as a CNA will give you a better chance of landing a job as a nurse after graduation?

So.................the best I can do this year for points is 69. Next year I will have close to what you have. Anyhoo, keep me posted on your progress. I know I'll be updating as I progress. (Hee-hee, I just used the same word as a noun and a verb.:lol2:)

No, I don't think it would be worth it. That's a lot of money, and I know it's a big time commitment (it's MTWHR, 9-230 for either Spring A or B). It's more worthwhile to join the SNA and receive those 5 points, in my opinion. What classes are you taking right now? I have not taken three of the 2 point classes, and I am on the wait list for them in hopes that I can take one of them during Spring B term.

Yea, I didn't think so. If I don't get in this year I can make up those pts with the reapp points.

I'm not taking any classes right now. When I had my epiphany on nursing it was in the middle of Jan. I would've taken DEP 2004.

I need to take DEP 2004, intro to healthcare (do you know when that's offered?), and I guess I can take computers and med terminology (I've taken this before but it was at a school that didn't transfer). I don't think I want to take adv college reading. I would like to take as many classes online as I can. I have a 3 month old and I'm not quite ready to put her in daycare.

Which three classes are you waiting for?

I know I'll probably find out at the advisement session, but do you know how and to whom we show our SNA membership too?

Specializes in MICU.

Becoming a CNA is worth more than the 5 points they give you.

Every single day since I started nursing school, I have wished I had become a CNA first.

And actually working as a CNA is also a great help.

I think you just need to show proof of your SNA membership by April 1st to the office.

I was waiting on SLS 1101, CGS 1000, or REA 2205 to open up, and got a spot in SLS. I don't know when Intro to Healthcare is offered (I took it at a different school) but they might still take your Medical Terminology. They said that they could take mine even though it was from a different school. Even though it may not "transfer", it may still be acceptable (they do substitutions, too).

You can print out a membership card on the NSA website and turn that in with your application.

Did you find out about med term at the advisement session? If so I'll bring those transcripts and ask. I don't need credit I just need the points. Thanks for bringing that up.

Have fun in SLS 1101, I'm sure you'll have a blast.:lol2: I have an AA already so I'm assuming that's what they mean when they say 'previous degree.' I got my AA from a CC that is now a 'State College.' What's with all the CC's becoming state colleges anyway?

hey hopeful nurse

I went to the group advisement session today. It was very informative. I asked two people about getting points for classes that didn't transfer and they didn't know but wanted to have a look at my transcript, another person flat out said no. If they don't transfer you can't use them.

Do you think I should just submit those transcripts with my file and see what happens. I can try to meet with the advisor that showed some interest in my problem but everytime I go to the advisement office I see the same person.

Who do you see? I'd ask to see one of the advisors, there's a man and a woman, the man is ***** and the woman is ****.

I usually see ****. At the group advisement, ***** was the one who wanted to have a look. If there are no appointments how do I see just *****?

I have an AS in Medical Assisting, so I was thinking of taking my transcripts and book to the advisor to see if they thought it could be substituted for HSC

1000. We learned everything from billing/pt scheduling to vital signs, phlebotomy, and EKG. IMHO that's a pretty good intro to healthcare:D

So that's where my CGS and Med Term credits come from, my worthless MA degree. I was hoping to at least get some pts out of it if not credit transfer. The classes I want pts for are not even classes required for the ASN degree.

**** had mentioned that they've never had a case like mine. I guess that's why I keep getting different answers.

I would just ask to see the person you want to see when you go in, and tell them you are willing to wait!
