Getting ready to take a big chunk of prereqs this summer. Here is what I have....
Summer A
College Algebra
A&P 1
Summer B
Elements of Chem (need for micro)
Humanities (undecided)
What do you think? Any suggestions welcome.
If you made it in this year, how many points did you have?
hey floridagirl87,
i also applied to the program for this year. excited yet anxious to find out! it really sounds like you have a great shot at a seat!! i applied with only receiving 72 points. i'm hoping that will fit the pool of points this year. last year there was someone accepted with 74 points, so i'm crossing my fingers. i also applied to st. johns program in palatka. i actually live in palatka, so it would be more reasonable to attend there, but i'm keeping my options open and hopefully will get accepted to one of them....
i know its frustrating trying to get some answers in the health dept. office, but their hands are tied and unable to answer many of the questions.
thanks for mentioning the notification dates; hopefully, i can find out what you're talking about. maybe that'll give us a better idea when we should be getting our letters. i wish you luck and hopefully i'll see you in fall. keep updating the thread if you find out any info or when you get your acceptance letter!!! don't pull your hair out in the meantime i'll try not to.
well i feel like a total idiot because i will probably get rejected for having an incomplete application:
"each document must have your name, student id number, program for which you are applying and date submitted (date stamp available in health sciences counseling office.)"
why am i just now seeing this information? all my documents were date stamped, but the advisor never told that all that other stuff had to be included. what about you guys? i'm trying not to have a nervous breakdown over here.
hey littlebirdie,
i submitted an application and didn't put all that info. on all of my doc's either. i hope that is just protocol... i mean, if it was important the health science counselor should’ve said do it. i wouldn’t stress about it. hopefully it will be fine. my friend that applied this year said she didn't do it either...
I was compulsively going into the advising office the few weeks before the application was due to make sure I had everything in order. The last time I went in was to turn in documented volunteer hours. I tried to go talk to an advisor to make sure everything was good but the secretary at the front desk said she would take it for me and put it into my folder. I handed her a sealed envelope which she ripped open, quickly glanced over, and said "looks good." When I asked again to talk to an advisor to make sure that I was going to get all the points I earned, she had another girl bring out my folder. The other girl quickly flipped through it and showed me its contents and said "looks good." I felt really uneasy leaving there because I would be so upset if I lost out on points because of a silly mistake.
Anyway, the applications are all turned in now and it's out of our hands. It is so easy to stress out now though because we are all just playing this giant waiting game. I keep looking on the health science website under "notification dates" to see if/when our letters will be mailed out. I'm expecting sometime around the middle of the month. I'll keep everyone posted if I get any more info :)

Me too. They let me look through my file and when I was done some woman took it and just put it off to the side and started helping another student. I spent the rest of the day worried that the folder wouldn't make it back to its proper place!
I think last year the notifications were sent on June 18th. Still, I check online every day for news. It's crazy to think that in just three weeks I'll (hopefully) be getting the news I've been busting my butt for since '09.Anyway, the applications are all turned in now and it's out of our hands. OH WOW! I was just at Publix and ran into a girl who was in my chemistry class last year. She said she called the Health Sciences office and was told the letters should be sent out on June 9th. I did not expect us to find out so soon, so this is a nice surprise if the info is accurate. I actually got goosebumps when she told me!
Regardless of the outcome, I am SOOO ready for this wait to be over.
I just called the Health Science office because I am going out of town in a week and wanted to know when the notifications would be mailed. The girl that answered the phone said they would be sent out 3 weeks from now, that around 400 people applied, and they would be accepting 140 students.
I'm really hoping she was wrong and that they are going to be mailed out sooner. I will have a heart attack if I have to wait that long.
It is so nice to know others are going through this as well!
It is an emotional roller coaster. Sometimes I get so excited thinking about being in nursing school, and then I think about the possibility of 144 people having more points than me and my heart just sinks. A B in music appreciation and C+ in stupid college algebra (what was I thinking taking it over a 6 weeks?) kept me from getting the full 30 points for prereq GPA. I have A's in all the science courses (3.7 GPA), and it makes me sick to my stomach to think that my grades in those two mostly useless classes could keep me from getting accepted. I also ended up with a B+ in dev psych due to an issue with Angel that my instructor would not help me with, even though open campus said they could fix the situation as long as she got in touch with them....I was seven points away from getting an A in that class. My application went down SIX points the last week of this past semester. I was so upset.
Like I said before, I am just ready to find out regardless of the outcome. I'm so over these yo-yo emotions. I'm ready to either celebrate or mope around for a week and get on with my life.
Ugh 420 applicants...I just can't even think about it. I would LOVE to know what the average points were this year.
Also, if I hear my boyfriend, bless his heart, tell me one more time, "I don't understand why you're so worried, you're gonna get in!!" I think I might punch him in the face.
Health Sciences updated their page! Letters should go out on Monday!!!! The wait is almost over!

Hi Everyone!
I just joined allnurses.com today and was so excited to find this thread. I am also a 2011 hopeful and I think I had about 86 points when I turned in my application. I am starting to get a little anxious about what the applicant pool will be like this year. When I spoke with an advisor about the number of points I have he simply said it was a "good" number but was not very reassuring. I know they can't tell us much because admission is completely up to the various scores of the applicant pool but man, am I really starting to sweat bullets. I don't know how long I am going to be able to wait for the admission letters to come out. All they told me in the advising office was sometime in June and to check the notification dates on the health science website. Does anyone have a better idea of when these things are actually supposed to get mailed out? At least I know that we are all in this waiting game together, good luck guys!!
