I'm about to submit my application to the nursing program at GA Highlands and I am so confused by the "nursing program worksheet". I don't want to fill it out wrong and have it go in the trash! If you haven't taken some of the courses do you just put something like N/A or "not taken" in the line for grade and 0 in the line for points? So basically not having taken a course is the same as failing it, correct? Also, does anyone know what admission score is considered competitive? Thank you so much!!!:bowingpur
I know I'm probably not a very competitive applicant because there's a few pre-reqs I haven't taken but I figured it can't hurt to apply, I just may get lucky!
congrats rooners77 and cclaudine! i hope more classmates log onto here so we can talk to each other about what all is going on. im so flipping excited i cant stand it. now if i could get this baby out of me (im 40 weeks pregnant), id start cracking down. Im already starting to work on vocab and basic skills such as bp. let me know if you would like my vocab, im going to type it up.yay!~!~
ashley - can't believe you're 40 wks!! is this your first baby? my daughter had her third boy a few weeks ago but she was way early. i can't even imagine if she had gone to 40 wks!! yes, i am a non-traditional student (a nice way for say old) going for my second degree. how far did you go into the semester the last time you were in the program? i'd love your vocab, if you don't mind. i've been studying clinical calc and pharm - advice from the fall students. i will be seeing some of them over the break, so i'll see what else they can help us with. i'll be happy to pass everything on to everyone. i'll private msg you my email. thanks, and good luck with the baby!!
rooners,
This is actually baby number three for me. I dont know why hes late, my others wernt. Its awful though. They said his spine is to my spine and they thinks it has something to do with me not going inot labor, and all of the extreme back pain. Ill be glad to get him out and start focusing. your non-traditional comment is hilarious by the way, but please dont call yourself old again...i have three kids at 24, i too will be there soon. As soon as i type up the vocab i will send it your way. have you started the shot sequence yet? i dont know if im allowed since ill be nursing?? and i think i only have to do one tb test since i had a stacked test last year? i dont know though im confused. I just sent off my pic and letter today. I made it until the fourth test. i did one day of clinicals. Thats right about when i met my husband and threw the semester away. its been worth it though. im glad we will be in a smaller class for a year, i learn better that way.
hi guys,
i'm dan, and i got in for spring 2010 aswell.
rooners77 you had mentioned the books; do you know what books we need already?
i went to the ghc's bookstore website and for nurs 1101, spring 2010 they had 15 required items listed and 18 recommended items. that is a little intimidating to say the very least. prern ashley, since you went through the first few classes and probably know the "spiel" better, will we be needing all those items?
thanks
Congrats Dan!! Glad more spring GHC students are finding this website.
I was accepted this past fall for the Marietta location, but had to postpone until spring because of a medical situation. When we (a bunch of us from fall Allnurses) went to "keys for success" (orientation) the instructors told us which books we definitely needed for the first semester, or at least for the first few weeks. I think I remember them saying that the "bookstore recommended" were definitely optional, but all the others would carry us through the 1st and 2nd semester. We needed our assessment kit, fundamentals and assessment books, Nursing videos immediately. You could wait a bit before buying the others. I'm sure the question of books will come up at orientation again. No one wants to fork out $1,000 all at once, if not necessary. Try getting some of the books on Amazon - they're a little discounted now, between semesters. I've saved a good amount of money that way. I have the ISBN numbers if you have trouble finding them under the titles/authors.
Looking forward to meeting you and starting this journey!! If you have any other questions that I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask. Prern obviously knows more about the program, but she's waiting to deliver baby #3. I haven't heard from her lately so maybe she already has. I am meeting with a friend next week who's in the Marietta program - hopefully I will get some insight that I can pass on!!
hey dan,
sorry it has taken me so long to post on here. i just had a baby(ten and a half pounds), im tired lol. ok about nursing, yes it expensive and overwelming. I just ordered a lot of them off of amazon and spent like 400 in comparison to the 1200. You will need immediately, your fundamentals of nursing book w the cd's, health assessment book with the cd, assessment kit, and maybe the medical dictionary. I looked them up at the bookstore and then bought them off amazon. On amazon i got, health assessment, fundamentals, med-surg, pharmacology, mosbys drug guide, and the book that helps with nursing diagnosis( i forget the name)...anyways, i got all of that for $400.00. I understand completely if you cant shell out that kind of money, if not just start with the basics...you will need pharmacology shortly after school starts though. As for the rest of the books there helpful but definetly only reccomendations. Good luck and congrats.
