Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
Please know that other Excelsior nurses have fought the good fight. Still, when it all comes down - will you be able to get a job? California still permits some students to test (those enrolled years ago). But, when they get their degree and try to get a job - many, many can't, because they're Excelsior graduates. MOST California employers will no longer hire you with an Excelsior degree. Don't waste years and thousands of dollars to end up broke, depressed, and unable to make a decent wage.

Well I'm assuming that most EC students in Cali already graduated before the deadline that was given to them and most I'm assuming were able to get jobs. They passed this years ago in Cali, mabye the Hospitals hired EC grads between a certain deadline and now since EC 's are not permitted they figure if your still trying to graduate as an EC student in Cali that your taking to long and they don't want to hire them. I'm mean you take forever to finish just because you were "gradfathered in" legally you can but logically hospitals probably think why it took so long. I would love to hear from someone personally that was told that they are not hired because they went to EC if they finished and graduated in the deadline given.
If Georgia either passes the HB 475( which is the more conservative version but allows EC with clinicals) or they pass the other bill that doesn't metion clinicals and hospitals say they won't hire us....if the state allows EC graduates that would not be right. I understand employers can do what they want but how can they blantly say oh you went to EC so I won't hire you. There is a shortage of Nurses in GA and the rest of the country somebody will take us. The hospitals would have to state something specific like your skills or something else espcially if their is a obvious shortage in the hospital ...they need to fill these positions. If they says skills then you know what put up me against the average traditional grad and lets see, as someone stated graduates from traditional schools don't know more or less what they are doing and that's why they are preceptorships/ and new grad programs.
Also, if this happens to more than one person and hospital after hospital look out.... major lawsuit. Us Excelsior Students don't play. We support each other....and we all have each others back...we would be calling the senate, media, governor, and file a lawsuit. Just look at us now....we don't back down. Let the hospitals not hire us on the basis of going to Excelsior and Excelsior alone and see what happens.
I'm going to keep at it and I encourge others to continue their studies and graduate and don't let worrying about not being able to get a job GA here keep you. :wink2: With the shortage of Nurses we won't be unemployed for long. Hopefully we will hear from EC graduates as they get endorsed and get working as an RN and their take on what's being said. If anyone is in hospital now let us know what you hearing from employers.
Whether one ends up broke and depressed is a personal choice, is'nt it? It depends on how one sees it; and handles this situation, really. I truly doubt EC grads in Ga are going to roll over about all this.
Off topic, but when you see Bernie Madoff on TV getting lead away in cuffs for a thousand years or so and think about the lives he has devastated, does anyone else think about the members of the Board of Nursing in Georgia and how their actions have deeply and negativley impacted the lives of many? Not just the nursing grads from EC that they have recklessesly screwed over, but the very consumers whos access to care was significantly diminished, and whom they were charged to protect.
I am a proud graduate of EC in 12/08. I am currently employed in a level 3 NICU. Had 2 ER, Trauma ICU job offer. NICU chose me last April when my friends baby passed away and I have never been happier. My friend is a recent EC graduate works level 1 trauma. Another friend is ICU now and ER. Another friend is in charge of the Post Anesthesia Care Unit. Us California EC graduates are alive and well. My education has not hindered me in fact people are more intrigued by our drive and dedication to perservere. I have found that yes I dont have some clinical skills, but the facility that hires you has their own patient care guide lines and will train you to perform skills and procedure based on their policy and procedures. And I was hired as an RN-1 and my co-workers are only to happy to answer questions and share their knowledge.
Here you go, love:

Always go to this link and check it for changes regularly, because they are apparently adding meetings here and there without giving anyone any foreknowledge of meeting.
And yes, they are meeting today at 3 pm. Good luck everyone who is waiting! I am thinking and praying for you!

Hi all. I was disappointed to hear HB 475 passed, and am wondering why so much support in ther Senate yet so little in the House ?
