Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
I have found a live feed to the House legislature. It is live and you can watch what they are considering and voting on. They will be in recess till 2pm. Here is the link.

At least if the bill is voted down and the other bill doesn't get out of the HHS theirs hope for next year and the rest of us currently enrolled need to finish next year and get waived in. I hope the other bill can get out of the HHS. They are working on it as someone stated...I wonder if they making more changes....

No, they have not brought it up for vote that I have noticed. I have been listening since around lunch today. I have to leave shortly to go to another campus to lecture. Not sure how long they will stay in session. It seems they do not go in numerical order. They may be leaving till the end, because there might be some arguments dealing with the bill. We will see.
Sorry GA students, they just passed bill HB 475!! It is a good bill for us already in school or graduated, current students have 2010 to finish. Unfortunately, GA BON is requiring 800 hours of clinical experience for those who want to start the program. Don't think EC will be agreeing to that. Don't know what else we all have to do about this.
Any thoughts??
I do know that I was watching the video and the Rep in my district voted NO. Maybe my email worked. But it passed by like 173-13.
Yea, for us enrolled we have until 2010 and no wavier but for future students clinicals. I thought she said if your an LPN only 350 hours and non lpn like RT's etc. over 700 hrs and out of state something else like 1 yr of experience or 350 hrs. I'm not for sure it will be posted soon. Where are students going to get clinical hours? I guess they will have to work it out on their own? Huh.
That Ms. Cooper said they were in talks with EC for years and the school did not want to do anything. EC claims Last year was the first they heard of anything. Who knows..
Where does this bill go from hear and what about the other bill in HHS that passed the Senate weeks ago?
Hi everyone, I was at the Capitol all day, spoke to several legislators and we were there lobbying.. the EC Assistant Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Laurie Nagelsmith were there, Debbie Hackman (CAE of GNA), several of us students (about a dozen?), and a very helpful guide or lobbyist, I'm not sure if she was from EC -but she is keeping up with info and data & asked for a copy of the notes I had been taking (as I spoke to Reps I wrote their responses pro or con and some quotes.)
Things changed constantly all the while as it was still in progress, as they told us about the HB and the ammendment that had been added to it by Rep Miller- which meant we now wanted them to PASS it, because it was a beneficial ammended compromise we could live with! So they explained to us what we wanted to discuss with the Reps, and just as we were about to go out to the floor and begin lobbying, someone came in and said it had been passed back to "sub rules".. which is basically the bill regressed to starting over. So then we were like Uhhhh, about face! We then worked the rest of the day on how we could get this AMMENDED version of the bill PASSED, so that it could then be improved.. so we talked to all the Reps we could, asked them to please tell the speaker that this bill still needs more work, we are trying to compromise- and to please continue to work on this bill to make it one we can live with. We then explained the situation and told our testimonies, and most of them were very positive in saying they want to help us.
So, the bottom line is, we now wanted it to pass.. where before we didn't; since it had been changed (ammended) and will continue now to be changed-- to have it to change more FOR our benefit is what they are now working on.. This bill passing is good they said, cause otherwise it would be just be dead on the floor and we would have nothing.
We don't have SB 49, SCooper is just sitting on it like an egg,:anbd: till she clucks I guess... :grn:...apparently this is a habit of hers and they are all familiar with it! :icon_roll
Working with HB 475 is the best bet we have right now, that was the news and convo of the day.
I've never been involved in any political events before, but I have been to the Capitol twice now to lobby, and it is quite an interesting experience!!! I'm sure there will be another opportunity soon, but oyy I have to renew CPR like right now, and start studying for NCLEX!! I need to get graduation & testing expedited quickly if I can, so I can continue to work with this legislation too.. I'll call EC in the morning, fingers crossed
