Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
FYI....Just a quick update on where my endorsement application stands. Here is a snapshot of the info provided online via "Check Application Status"... It has looked the exact same since 1/13/09 so I called the boards and was told that it generally take 3-4 weeks to see a change, but since mine is an Excelsior endorsement, it will have to be reviewed by the members of the board and they will meet on March 18th. She also said that the applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received and they have just began to "trickle in". SO if yours is not reviewed in March, it will be May before you get another chance. Excelsior told me not to apply yet, but as of right now...I am glad I did. Hope I don't regret it later:innerconf

Excelsior will eventually help you fill out your waiver. Thing is.....they are not recommending that you apply yet. They told me that they were still attempting to hash out the wording needed on the waiver with the boards and were concerned that I would be turned down or have added legal fees if I acted too quickly. They advised me to wait until they advised me otherwise. I just got sick of waiting. I passed the CPNE last July. I want my license and I am tired of waiting. I will be glad to e-mail my waiver to you, but it is multiple pages and I don't think it would be appropriate to post it online.
anyone go to the captial this week?
also, here's the lastest for those who do not get updates on ga.
senate bill # 49 introduced to retain licensure for excelsior college graduates
we are pleased to announce that legislation has been introduced in the general assembly of georgia that is intended to retain rn licensure potential for graduates of excelsior college. under the gracious sponsorship of senator lee hawkins, senate bill #49 was introduced to the general assembly on january 26. the bill aims to address issues raised last year with the passage of house bill 1041 and to clarify that a pre-licensure nursing program such as excelsior's is considered to meet "criteria similar to, and not less stringent, than those established by the board." you can read the full text of this bill at http://www.legis.ga.gov/legis/2009_10/search/sb49.htm
urge your senator and representative to support senate bill #49
now that an actual bill has been introduced, it is highly important that you send a message to key legislators and your local senator and representative asking them to support senate bill #49. governor perdue has been supportive of our efforts and it is vital that members of the georgia legislature hear directly from you - the voters - about the need for this bill to be passed.
as you have in the past, it is essential that your letter be professional in nature and not include any negative or derogatory statements. you want to make a good impression of yourself and excelsior's program. the letter should be in your own words and tell legislators your story: why you want to become an rn and how important it is to you; why you chose excelsior college to earn your degree and how your current and past clinical experiences are helping you to achieve your goal. tell them that you want them to vote in favor of senate bill # 49.
as you write this letter, it will be important to include certain points such as the following:
address your letter to your local senator and representative. you can identify them and get their mailing addresses at http://www.legis.state.ga.us/ and look for the link at the bottom of the page to "find your legislator." please also send copies to the persons listed at the end of this letter.
although our efforts have the support of the georgia nurses association and the georgia hospital association, letters to state legislators from their constituents will be key to the passage of senate bill #49. please send you letter as soon as possible. passage of this bill is the best way to assure that all excelsior college nursing graduates will have the privilege of becoming licensed as an rn in georgia.
thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
sincerely,

That is a fair and just solution for the time being; I believe a permanent legislative fix is in order to allow EC grads to continue to obtain licensure in Ga., beyond their so-called cutoff of 2010.
If Ga tries to get away with this and succeeds, more unneccesary damage to EC reputation, and more states may follow.
It is my hope that EC will be accepted permanently once and for all.
