Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
found this on the general assembly website.....
sb 49 georgia registered professional nurse practice act; nursing education program requirements; revise certain provisions
status:02/05/09 - senate committee favorably reported
no details really, but favorably must be good huh? you can see it yourself here...
lots of people, including myself wonder about the process and time frame that we are looking at for this law to change. i found one that was tracked through the process stopping in committees etc.. here is the steps and dates, maybe it can serve as a guideline.
the senate version was introduced in the house on february 22, 2000.[color=#0b3d91] (12) the bill was then assigned to the house education committee, which favorably reported the bill on march 14, 2000.[color=#0b3d91] (13) the senate unanimously passed sb 336 on march 16, 2000.[color=#0b3d91] (14) after both the house and the senate passed sb 336, the governor signed the bill into law on april 20, 2000.

hi. try not to feel so awful! :icon_roll please go to excelsior.edu, get the phone number and request an application. i pasted this info from the website: you have obviously completed more than 50% of the bsn program, and if it has been no more than five years, you should be alright. get your initial rn licensure, and you can work as an rn while you complete your bsn, (just a thought). good luck to you!
admission to our associate degree nursing programs is open to:
also, individuals who have successfully completed at least 50 percent of the clinical nursing credit hours in an associate, baccalaureate, or rn diploma nursing program may be eligible for the program if they apply within 5 years of completing their last nursing course. the necessary documentation, such as copies of licenses, certificates, and official transcripts must be submitted with the admissions application.
the undergraduate application for admission (online and pdf) identifies required supporting documentation required for admission by each category of applicant as well as additional admissions criteria.
I guess we have to wait for the official word to come from the GA bon, and or EC, but it looks like to me, EC nursing program has been accept here in Georgia. This is what has been added to the Revision:
A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Article 1 of Chapter 26 of Title 43 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to the "Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act," so as to revise certain provisions relating to nursing education program requirements for registered professional nurses; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.
(4) Meet such other criteria as established by the board.
(e) For purposes of subsections (b) and © of this Code section, a nursing education program that:
(1) Is part of an institution of higher education located outside of the State of Georgia that is approved by the appropriate regulatory authorities of its home state;
(2) Holds regional and specialty accreditation by an accrediting body or bodies recognized by the United States Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation;
(3) Requires program applicants to be a licensed practical/vocational nurse, military service corpsman, or paramedic or hold a degree in a clinically oriented health care field with demonstrated experience providing direct patient care to qualify for admission; and
(4) Requires its students to pass faculty determined program outcomes including competency based assessments of nursing knowledge, a rigorous clinical competency assessment, and a board recognized licensing exam at a rate equivalent to the completion rate for students of approved programs in Georgia
is hereby deemed to meet criteria similar to, and not less stringent than, those established by the board."
SECTION 2.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
I am no lawyer, but this sounds to me like the requirements of EC's ADN RN program.
Thanks OslogirlBy the way, I forgot to say that I am in state of Gerogia. So do you think I can still apply. I have read all the problems by Georgia Board of Nursing towards Excelsior college.
Hi. I do not know,please call a nursing advisor at EC. It is my hope a a permanent legislative remedy will allow EC grads to continue to pursue licensure in Ga.beyond the so-called Dec.2010 , cut-off date. I hope everything works out well for you.
