Hey All,
I aM floored. I just received notice from GA Board of Nursing that they denied the endorsement of my MN RN license because I did not meet clinical practice requirements . When I called the board, they transferred me to a their Legal Nurse Consultant who stated that effective July 1, 2008 GA would no longer endorse RN license from Excelsior College students with no previous RN experience. She suggested that I go to my licensed state and work for a while then try again, but she could not give me a time frame.
Has anyone else experienced this. I thought we should at least have gotten some sort of notice/warning before this type of rule be adopted by the board. I am going to file a motion for reconsideration using an Attorney. Before I entered Excelsiors program I called GA Board to verify acceptance. I had been accepted to a traditional LPN to RN bridge program; I could have been almost finished their too. I am so sad right now. I have been crying for two days. I think I will need to see my doctor for Zoloft.
I have been an LPN for over 13 years doing Med/Surg for at least 10. I work on a hospital unit right now. THIS IS SO UNFAIR!!!:banghead:
Hey everyone, I have a question...........Would it be wrong to request that Georgia stop the non-sense of getting licensed in other states and practicing by endorsement? I mean if we are changing the law and all.....why not go ahead and let us sit for the GA boards? Then GA would get the application and license fees.
Just a thought...I guess maybe we should just stick to the matter at hand and deal with the rest later.
I forwarded the e-mails about the letter writing to all my family members and friends and requested they write letters as well. I think if we clog the offices with mail, it will make a point!
Jodi Heflin, LPN in Ga RN in SC as of 11/19 yeah!!!!!!
:anpom:
That would be an AweSomE best-case scenario!!!! I never could make any sense of the fact that we could not sit for the NCLEX in GA, yet the SPAC CPNE was held here?!? :icon_roll
(((my CPNE date is Feb 20-22 at Grady : ) )))
Great. but it excludes those of us who are alumni. Is there anyway you can change this to include graduates too?
Hi. Sorry I can't change it because I didn't write it but you could leave a comment that expresses how you feel. The comments are going to be just as powerful, if not more, than the signatures.
Does anyone know if this will affect the ability for an Exclesor BSN grad from joining the Navy as a nurse?I hope not - it sounds isolated to GA.
Perhaps you should give a bit of background to your question so readers of this board might be able to place your question in proper context.
The navy has recently stopped accepting those with an online BSN from applying to becoming a commissioned officer in the navy nurse course.(for students who were ADN RNs and then did online coursework).
Military often has a good pulse on the education system as they can react without worrying about the admin and unions and etc.
Thus the military's ability to push the PA and CRNAs into theory to use so quickly.
Please provide a source for your information. For example, here is what is on the US Navy's Web site for eligibility criteria for nurses:Specific Requirements
* Be a student or graduate in good standing of a U.S. education program granting a Bachelor of Science degree and accredited by the appropriate state board of nursing or the National League for Nursing

I just spoke with senior navy nurse recruiter for New York. She has absolutely no clue what you are talking about. So long as the graduate has a BSN from a NLAN accredited institution, then they are accepted. For the recruiters name and number, please request and I'll send a PM with her contact information.
In no way shape or form does it state what you have just provided. Please clarify with a reference source.
Again, please provide a reference.
Tammy, Thanks for the feedback.... You've talked to someone and I've talked to someone - both recruiters and both with different results.I value the online concept but hope to see programs come to a more unified curriculum and maintain a less varied standard of excellence.

No problem. But that's not exactly the sum of our dialogue related to this matter. That's OK, though, because I'm here to help you.First you stated that those with distance ed BSN's are ineligible to become commissioned officers in the navy.
In response, I pointed out this was an inaccurate statement and was completely false. I provided a reference, which I will provide again that provides minimum eligibility requirements to include:
"Be a student or graduate in good standing of a U.S. education program granting a Bachelor of Science degree and accredited by the appropriate state board of nursing or the National League for Nursing"
http://www.navy.com/careers/healthcare/nursing/#specific-requirements
I also provided a name and phone number for the lead naval nursing recruiter in New York in which she would provide verification that the above resource is accurate and that your claim is false and without merit. I have her name and phone number and can PM anyone upon request.
Now you try and backtrack by claiming that we have both "talked" with people. Again, what you have claimed is false, misleading and cast aspersions on distance education programs and those consumers of distance education by implying that distance education programs are inferior as manifested by the United States Navy not recognizing such programs, CCNE accreditation notwithstanding.
Again, my challenge to you is to provide a resource, either written from the Navy or PM me the name of your source, to support your claim.
Again, still standing by for a reference.

I did my CPNE at Grady last July. It was a wonderful experience. Be prepared and you will do fine. They are so cool and do not put you on the spot at all. You will do great!! Good Luck!

wOw, thank you so much rjlchef!! :loveya:
I'm so relieved to hear that.. Grady is MUCH bigger than the hospital I work at, so I was a bit apprehensive about that along with all my other nervousness. I'm working hard on mnemonics right now.. and my living room looks like a semi-private hospital room, with adult & baby 'patients', LOL.
I mailed my 10 letters today, to all the indicated individuals, plus to our Governor Perdue for his reference and to thank him again for his support! :bowingpur :yelclap: :thankya:
Hello Everyone,

According to recent reports, Georgia's governor (who has come down firmly on the side of EC and its students/grads) has already replaced three of 'em.
