I actually kept a list a few years ago when I was working at a bush hospital in Zambia. We would go into villages and immunize hundreds of kids, so I saw quite a few names over the course of the summer. Apparently any English word will do! Some of my personal faves?

Amazing Grace

A'miracle (not to forget the obligatory ' to make the name cool. However, this one really was a miracle. 24 weeker who layed in a outlying hospital left for dead after a 20 min resus attempt. After an hour kiddo started making cry noises so a resus was again started and transfered. Kid had the most uneventful NICU course! Left PO feeding, crying, looking around!)

Tytanna (mom said it spelled tatyana.... I told her that the spelling was not what she called it, but she wants it to be unique....)

I just love it when you ask the mom how to spell the baby's name and they have to really think about it...hmm..let's see...then they change the spelling in mid-sentence! Very odd.

Where I used to work had a large Cambodian population and there was a Mom whose English wasn't so great... I can't remember how it was spelled but the little girls' full name would've been pronounced (in English) Easy Lay! We had to sit mom down for a little talk and suggest it might not be such a good idea... :lol2:

Peyshence (Patience)

Kwanell

A'Kufusai

Just today I asked a mom how to spell her son's name and she said that she hadn't gotten that far, but how would I spell it? I told her that it was up to her. I wanted to say that I wouldn't name him that at all!

Sir-Anthony .... that was just his first name.

Well, let's see...

Miracle - spelled Myrakle, meracel, mirakel

Patience - spelled Payshuns, Paeshense

Bryan and Breeanne

There are many, many more that I can't think of right now.

Specializes in NICU/Neonatal transport.

My favorite from a non-hospital setting was Mrquantez and Sirantonio (brothers) mister quantez and sir antonio *rolls eyes*

When I was in the ER, I saw some great ones like: Imyuneek. (I'm unique)

In our unit we had an Amiracle (she might have spelled it differently) and we never referred to her as that, because well - that should be obvious *LOL* We always called her "Miss Smith". Mom was not involved and we realized we needed to come up with a nickname for Amiracle, otherwise this child would grow up and think their name was "Miss Smith". *LOL*
