Fundamentals of nursing readings (1-7)

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I start my nursing classes on the 27th of this month, and prior to starting school. We were asked to read 1-7 chapters before school starts and I can't seem to pass chapter 2 without reaching boredom. Lol It's basically on different cultures, and how as a nurse I'm suppose to react in different culture situations. Also the introduction nursing and etc..

Anyone one else have this problem???

Uh you need to know this stuff it is important. You cannot be a nurse if you are not culturally safe.

Specializes in PICU, Sedation/Radiology, PACU.

Yes, fundamentals can be a little dry because, well, it's fundamentals. It's the basic stuff that isn't really thrilling but that you need to know. You'll be tested on this stuff, so you need to read it.

Just grit your teeth, break it into short segments (half a chapter per day or so) and read the material. This is not the only time you'll be given a necessary assignment that you find boring.

I'm struggling too. It's all good though. We just have to get through the foundations...to reach the top. Best of Luck with 1st semester!

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

I start the 29th and we were given the same thing. Try active reading. I make outlines while I read and it really helps me to remain focused and retain the information. The odds are pretty good that we will be tested on it.

Specializes in Primary Care; Child Advocacy; Child Abuse; ED.

I agree break it up in sections and then reward yourself for completing that. I find myself doing that same thing to subjects that bore me. So I will plan to meet up with a friend for coffee or something and my requirement is I have to read so much to be able to go. It is a bit silly but it works for me lol! Good luck:)

I just received a letter from MEC for an interview I am very nervous can someone please tell me what it is like what questions do they ask you. How should I prepare for this

ey kstar25,

Congrats on your letter!!

I was so excited to recieve my letter! Lol

Ok so for the interview, ita usually held in the auditorium. Last yr it wasnt a one on one interview, its open for everyone. Meaning they talk mostly through out the day about the program and whats expected of you. No need to be nervous.

And they will probably ask your reason for becoming a nurse.

Bring your resume and I think they posted everything in the letter?

After a week or so you will recieve a letter if you're accepted.

Good luck!!!

Hi im currently taking my pre-reqs in MEC. When is the nln exam? when can i apply?

Hi FutureRn1126. You should go to the SASS center to find out because you need to bring in some documents as well as finding out if you're eligible to sit the exam. Normally when it's time to register for the NLN exam, bulletins are posted around the college as well as the college's website. Last fall if I remember clearly, the exam took place during the last week of August. Good luck.
