FSCJ Summer 2014 Hopefuls

Published

Hello, everyone!

Since I have not seen one started on this site, I thought I would go ahead and get the ball rolling. This thread is for anyone hoping to get into FSCJ's Nursing Program for the term starting in the Summer of 2014.

Thanks 25127. I scored low in the math section because I didn't touch up on anything. It's been about two years since I have taken a math class and I needed a major refresher. I am one of those people, if you don't use it you will lose it. I have been practicing a couple of times a week on my math skills and timing my speed. I hope to bring that up because I know for a fact I got all of the math word problems wrong because I forgot the steps. I know them now so I am expecting to do alot better. I did pretty good on the symbols. I haven't been doing much preparing on the reading part of the test because I scored pretty good in that so I am only focusing on science and math because you can combine your scores from both tests. The only suggestion I can give on the science portion is breaking down every section in the review book that the college offers and make sure you know everything. You can't really study one section because it's so broad. I ordered a Biology book on half.com for $10 and touched up on almost every section I could remember on the test. I also googled "everything I should know about Biology" and looked at alot of the websites. I think it helped but I will know when I take the test in December. I know it seems like a lot but I can't go back into the testing center unprepared. I would rather over prepare and not need it versus under preparing and not being ready. I think for me, going into the test unprepared gave me a boost because hopefully that was my lowest point and I can only do better. I will be sure to let everyone know when that time comes. Good luck to everyone. I hope we see each other in May.

hey group. my name is jason and i'm taking ap2 now which is my last pre req so i can apply for summer14. im very excited for all of us hopefuls! I'm going to look back at my pre reqs to determine my pre req score. im using my cell phone now so i don't have access but can anyone paste which pre reqs go into the scoring and how many points for an a b or c..thanks! i currently work at st vincents riverside as an acp for almost 3 years. i remember reading that work experience gets points but it didn't list acp but it didi say with direct patient contact. can anyone confirm if acp's/pct's get the work experience points? good luck to everyone, lets get this!!!

Hi burgjp

Please see below. I think you can only use what they have listed as work experience but you could always call the college and confirm.

A=4

B=3

C=2

Multiply that times your credit hour

BSC 2085C 4 credit hours

BSC 2086C 4 credit hours

MCB 2010C 4 credit hours

MAC 1105 3 credit hours

Humanities 3 credit hours

Dep 2004 3 credit hours

ENC 1101 3 credit hours

PSY 1012 3 credit hours

SYG 2000 3 credit hours

Hey everyone, my name is Sergio and I'm so happy I found this forum! I as well am planning to apply for the 2014 Summer ADN nursing program, that's if I end up finishing all my prerequisites which I'm sure I will if I work hard enough. Little background on me, After graduating high school (2010) I had absolutely no interest in going to college, my parents actually had to FORCE me to go to class for two years, I wanted to break free and start earning money quickly so I started working as a night auditor for a LaQuinta Inn. After almost a year of working in that hell I decided it was enough and finally learned how tough life is without a degree. Nursing always interested me, especially nursing that specializes in anesthesia. Now I'm all for it and will do whatever it takes to become a CRNA. After retaking classes I was thankfully able to raise my GPA from a measly 2.3 to 3.18 (Last two semesters I got all As and one B) I'm currently taking A&P1, CHM1032C and Human Nutrition (which I think counts towards the BSN).

Here's an outline

BSC 2085C (taking it now fall 2013)

BSC 2086C (taking it spring 2014)

MCB 2010C (taking it spring 2014)

MAC 1105 3 (taking it spring 2014)

Humanities 3 (I took World Religions got a B and Art Appreciation got an A...Do they count as humanities classes?)

Dep 2004 3 (Got an A)

ENC 1101 3 (Got a B) but also took ENG 1102 and got an A

PSY 1012 3 (Got an A)

SYG 2000 (Got a B)

nice to meet you sergio! someone correct me if i'm wrong. the summer deadline is in feb. i see sergio that you will take ap2 in spring. is it true that all sciences need to be completed before the feb deadline? i am taking ap2 now and thought i was unable to apply for spring (deadline oct 1), because my ap2 would have been done in dec. good luck sergio!

Micro is the only thing you can be enrolled in without it being complete. Good luck ?

Hello all! My name is Kayla and I am hoping to start in the summer of 2014 as well. I have all my pre-reqs but Micro done. I can't take micro till the spring as I am currently taking Chemistry. I'm curious if any of you happen to know if it is likely to get accepted not having Micro done? I have all A's in the other pre-reqs but have not taken the NAT. Also, would anyone happen to know if the cut off score is usually high for the summer? I have seen some other posts saying it was 205 for the 2012 but haven't found any for this summer. Just trying to see if I have a fighting chance for this summer. Thanks and good luck!

I got in while still enrolled in micro. It was a summer start too (and nights/weekends on top of that, too). As long as you do well on your NAT, you should be fine.

Hello all future nurses!

My name is Josh. I am new to the site and wanted to release some fears upon the public. I am taking the NAT tomorrow and if I don't do well, I will try again in January, so I can make the deadline for Summer (Feb 1st). I am really nervous about it. A friend of mine allowed me to see her scores and after adding her Aptitude and Science scores and multiplying by .64 like it says in the application, she got a like 140 but I believe the cutoff is 120 for the NAT. So does that mean you just can't get more than 120. That gives me hope to make at least 120. Right now My grades aren't the best and it kinda worries me. They are as follows.

A&P I- A

A&P II- (In class now) Probably B

MAC- (In Class now) Probably B, Possible A

PSY- A

HUM- A

Dep- A

ENC- A

SYG- B

MCB- (Will take in Spring)

I am estimating like 94 points before the NAT and MCB. I guess I will find out tomorrow if I will enough points to be accepted, or if I will be studying for January. I hear you should have at least 200 total from NAT and Prerequisites.

OOPs!! I calculated my friends score wrong. I used her percentages rather than raw score. Her actual raw scores are as follows:

Academic Aptitude:(AA): 50

Reading Comprehension (RC): 21

Natural sciences (INS): 63

Total: 134 * .64 =85.76

That seems low but she got in I think 2 terms ago. I am guessing the Spring 2013. If this is correct, I will have to do much better on my NAT if I expect to get over 200 with my prerequisites at 94.

Hi, Josh. I went in the NAT the first time looking at it as my trial run so i wouldn't be psyched out & too nervous. I knew i had time for a second chance before applying. (I applied for spring) I took my NAT before taking chem, micro & AP 2 and i made 105. I think not having the nerves helped a lot. If a question is taking too long, guess & move on so you have time to answer everything. Good luck!!
