Hello, everyone!
Since I have not seen one started on this site, I thought I would go ahead and get the ball rolling. This thread is for anyone hoping to get into FSCJ's Nursing Program for the term starting in the Summer of 2014.
I am taking my NAT tomorrow! Kinda freaking out! From everything I have read from other threads they say not to stress it. But it's definitely hard! I need to get a pretty high score![/quote']Good luck, Kate :)
I went in knowing i had 2 times to take it so felt like my first chance was just a trial run to see what its about. That kept my nerves from getting the best of me & i did better than i thought.
Just remember, don't spend too much time on one question. If its taking too long just guess & move on so you don't run out of time. Breathe deep. This is bringing you one step closer to your dream. Best of luck!!!
Hello Everyone,
Once you have been accepted into the RN program, you may qualify for WIA Scholarship even if you do not qualify for financial aid. That was the case for me. The program can be very ruff at times, so you want to keep your working needs to a minimum (just enough to get by).
To those who still have to take Micro. I can highly recommend Dr. Bloodworth at the Deerwood campus. She is passionate about her subject - which can make her seem a little hard, but her intent is that no one fails. She is the only science teacher I had that actually does all assigned experiments. I went into the class just wanting to get by, but I learned a lot.
Good luck to you all.
I've taken the NAT. Did not do as well as I would have liked. I was really shocked at the spelling portion. English/spelling has never been an issue for me. I didn't even do much review on that. Most of the words on my test had never seen before. I tried to just use my general knowledge as far as like "I after E except after C" type of stuff..lol. But that part was my worst. Then math, I really suck at math, so that was no surprise. Right now I believe my points are 202.5. I have a C from when I was 19 and dropped out of college the first time around in Human Growth and Development and I have tried to do everything for FSCJ to let me re-take and I cannot. Not happy since that is an easy A Class and was 15 years ago..lol But oh well! anyways. I'm going to try and retake the NAT and see if I can boost some more points. That's all I can do now that all my prerequisites are done.
If anyone is looking for a A&P teacher, Professor Michael Barkey is awesome! He's a strange cookie, but good teacher, got a A and both a&p 1 and 2. For Micro I took Nicole Finch. Micro is not an easy class, but if you really put forth the effort she will see it. Even after not doing all that well on her quizzes and bombing my midterm, I was still able to pull out an A. And she curves grades :-)
I've not yet taken the NAT but my sister and I are planning to take it in September. I have heard the same things from other people about the areas that tripped them up. Thanks for writing to let us all know how it went. And hello, to all new people on the thread. I started A&P 2 and Microbiology on Monday. It is going to be a dense semester, but I want it over with, otherwise, I would have waited to apply for the Fall semester, and I didn't want that.
And what is the WIA scholarship? Is that different than the Worksource thing? I do not qualify for federal financial aid at all anymore because of my past mess ups in college.
Hi everyone, I am new to this thread but not to this website. Thanks for starting a Summer 2014 thread. I am done with all of my prereqs and plan to take the Nat again sometime in Dec so if I still don't score high enough I will still have time to retake it before the Fall semester deadline comes around. I am trying to get at least a 190 being that the last two semester cut offs have been 187 and some points. I took the Nat in June and didn't too well. Like others, I took it to see how it was and to see how I would do with no preparation. That didn't work for me. I can honestly say the test is not hard, but it was for me because I didn't take Biology in college, just in high school and I was very rusty on my science. I had very few Anatomy and Micro on my test so I would suggest anyone who still needs to take it to freshen up on your Biology skills. I have a tutor now and it is helping me tremendously. We are touching up on the basics and I plan to do a lot better next time. I am sure people will say, a tutor for the Nat, that's crazy, LOL, but yup, I have a tutor for the Nat. But being a Nurse is my dream and I am going to do everything I can to get there:geek:. I am so excited and eagerly awaiting for "my turn". I wish everyone the best in their classes this semester. I hope to meet everyone next May!
Hi Aye_Ne
I admire your determination to follow your dreams.I have no doubt you will make it to the finish line. I want to take the NAT test myself but from what I read the science portion is so broad I don't know what areas to focus on. If anyone has any advise please post, your advise will help decrease our stress level somehow lol
Im also looking to get into Nursing for summer 2014 at FSCJ. I plan to apply to UNF's bachelor program as well, if i can complete chemistry and statistics in Spring 2014 :) (just in case). Im taking Micro right now, and im done with my prereqs!!! Woot woot!! Congrats to everyone as well. I need to register for the PSB test asap and CPR ceritification. Has anyone taken the test yet? Was it hard???
