FSCJ Summer 2014 Hopefuls

Published

Hello, everyone!

Since I have not seen one started on this site, I thought I would go ahead and get the ball rolling. This thread is for anyone hoping to get into FSCJ's Nursing Program for the term starting in the Summer of 2014.

(JUST VENTING)

What is going on with people getting points towards the nursing program for being employed as EMT, LPN, Medical Corpsman, Respiratory Therapist, Paramedic, or FSCJ Trained Medical Assistant, but not CNA's. I have only been a CNA for about 3 months since I just separated from the Navy in June, therefore I would not be eligible for points anyway, but I am still a little offended that Certified Nursing Assistants don't get an opportunity to receive points towards the Nursing Program from their medical experience.

As a CNA, even in my short experience, I can tell everyone that where the nurses are standing on the sidelines of patient interaction, I as a CNA am elbow deep in patient care. Not only in a cleaning manner, but in a medical assessment, care, and emotional manner. I mean who do the nurses ask about how the patients are doing? CNA's. Who informs the nurses about changes in the patients due to just knowing the patient? CNA's. Lastly, who diagnoses patients before the nurse even knows based on sight, smell, and color? CNA's.

All the above professions rightly deserve to receive points for their medical experience and like I said before, even if they did offer points for CNA's, I wouldn't due to lack of experience. I would just like a little love for my brothers and sisters out there doing the work everyday on a much deeper medical and emotional level and not being recognized for it.

I totally agree with you. As a paramedic and having worked ambulance services, floor tech and ED I know how much CNA's have to deal with also. It sucks that its not recognized.

Thanks for posting this. I go on Thursday to take my NAT. Now I have a better idea of what to expect.

Can't believe it is so close to finally applying! I've been pecking away at this since 2009 (second time around). At the end of Spring I will have my AA. And hopefully starting the Nursing in Summer. I am not overly concerned with getting into the program. The fear is still there, but I have 202.5 points and the recent cut offs have been in the mid 180's. I am going to retake the NAT to try and get a couple extra. My main concern is getting into Night and Weekends. I really need to do that in order to make doing this program work with a 2 year old! :-)

So thats the part i'm starting to freak out about, and what if's!

Hello everyone I applied for the spring 2014 term has anyone received an acceptance letter yet?

There is a thread on here for Spring 2014 Hopefuls. And yes, they started receiving theirs last week I think. My friend got in :-) here is the thread

https://allnurses.com/florida-nursing/fscj-spring-2014-a-835349.html

About the NAT could I take it this year (2013) and then take it two more times next year (2014)? Also are there any study guides/online courses that I can take to help me prepare for the NAT?

You can only take it twice a year and has to be 90 days apart. However, I don't know if thats per year as in the year of 2013 or year of 2014, or per 12 months from the first time you took it. You can call and asked the assessment center. There are online things. FSCJ has some links. Assessment and Certification - Nursing Aptitude Test (NAT)

There is a book in the bookstore also.

It is per 12 months

The cutoff for Spring was 176.96. WOW;)

Hello everyone, i am also a summer hopeful i am now studying to take the NAT in few weeks. The spring cut off is so low, i wonder if it is because there are so many different school offering the nursing programs in Jacksonville and that is making the points go lower. Most of my friend went to different schools. I am just so nervous about the NAT.

I have a book not sure what side of town you are on but will be at the north campus Friday. Let me know if anyone needs it.

MaleCNA84,

Your post was very helpful. thnx...I'm planning on applying for the summer 2014 term as well. Planning on retaking my NAT next month. Scored really low on my last one. Also finishing up my micro right now. Hoping to get a "B" From reading all the past posts the scoring really freaks me out. Especially when my NAT score wasn't so great! :-(
