Hi everyone. This is my first time posting here. I am in the middle of tackling the pre-reqs for FSCJ nursing program. I am really hoping to get into the SPring 2012 program (fingers crossed!!) But I'm a little confused about something.
I will be taking my last two classes in the fall, Micro and AP2. My advisor told me that I can apply for the program while I am taking these classes....my question is, if I apply to the program before the Oct. 1 deadline how will they be able to calculate my points for Micro and AP2 if I have not yet fully completed those classes? Will I have to wait until the next fall program? I am really hoping that is not the case, but I'm thinking my advisor may have given me th wrong information.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Is that okay? I heard the cutoff was 201...what are ways to earn bonus
On page three of this thread I lay out everything that was in the nursing packet that I received from the nursing department and here is the info on bonus points:
Max points you can get for health-related work experience (LPN, medical corpsman, respiratory therapist, EMT, paramedic, or Florida State College trained medical assistant only...no other work experience, other than listed, will apply) = 20
That's it. That is the only bonus points you can get. Also, it really depends on the competition as to what the cutoff will be...I understand it can be different every semester :) The minimum you can have to apply is 120, but of course we know that you must have much more than that to be selected.
200.84 is competitive, IMO. Ultimately, I would 'think' they have to wait to receive all the apps and figure out from there what to make the cutoff. If the highest points earned from all apps received are say 210, then I would imagine they start from there and work their way down until all slots are filled. I will tell you this, that darn PSB-NAT really has me all in knots. I am waiting as we speak for the ARCO book so I can study. I have done what I could online. Took the PSB study test like 3 times...after a while you just know the answers without even looking (memorize), so doing it online is not doing me any good anymore. lol! I anxiously await that book. :) lol
I think this is one of the problems with FSCJ. They are not very clear on certain requirements and advice differs from one advisor to the next. The program packet clearly states that Micro is the only mandatory prereq that you can be completing when you submit your application. However, I was in the same situation as the OP (for Spring) and was also told by an advisor at South campus that I could apply while I was in Micro and A&P2. The reality is though that is highly unlikely you would get into the program without those possible 32 points (I didn't even try), plus A&P2 will help you get a better score on the NAT. You can try to submit your application, but there is not guarantee that the nursing department will even look at it without your A&P2 score being submitted. I know it is frustrating, because I have been there and am actually at a point were I don't have any classes left to take for this semester. It is a waiting game, but the reward is definitely worth it!
Also, don't forget that Microbiology has a chemistry pre-req that needs to be taken. I didn't realize this at first, and, sorry FSCJ advisors, you are lacking in communication skills and need to explain this!!
Do we know if the 2012 Spring Night/Weekends will be at Deerwood or the North Campus. I'm trying to get in with 225 points, we will see if that is enough! Anyone mind sharing what they are applying with (points), and for days or nights. I'm so nervous about not getting in. I teach during the day, so the day program is not an option for me.
Are nights and weekend classes being offered on the Deerwood Campus for Spring 2012?
I'm taking the PSB-NAT on Thursday and hoping to add at least another 100 points to the 120 I already have from my prerequisites.
I'm 9.5 months pregnant and have a 4-year-old, so studying for this test has been difficult.
For those of you who have already taken the NAT, are the questions on the test as hard as those in the ARCO book the college recommends? Some of the word problems seem incredibly involved if we're expected to do 90 problems in 30 minutes. I'm hoping the NAT is more like the sample questions available on the PSB's website.

WOW!!! 225 points is awesome :) I don't think I have seen/heard lately of anyone with that high of points. But again, I could be wrong. As far as nights, I 'hear' its at Deerwood, but again that's just through the grapevine...so, I wouldn't bet on it. Honestly, from everything I heard, those with the highest points get first pick as to whether they want nights or days...I would think you would be one of those who have a choice. I will try to call the program director in the next week or so and find out what the cutoff score was last semester...although it varies from semester to semester, it ought to give us a better idea of the true scores we are all up against. Good luck to you! :) Again, those points are great...you have me worried now!

Yes, that's correct. Max points given towards the program for PSB-NAT is 120.
@chzwoman - 200.84 is a competitive score :) Looks like you did fine!
