FSCJ Spring 2012 Hopeful w/???s

U.S.A. Florida

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting here. I am in the middle of tackling the pre-reqs for FSCJ nursing program. I am really hoping to get into the SPring 2012 program (fingers crossed!!) But I'm a little confused about something.

I will be taking my last two classes in the fall, Micro and AP2. My advisor told me that I can apply for the program while I am taking these classes....my question is, if I apply to the program before the Oct. 1 deadline how will they be able to calculate my points for Micro and AP2 if I have not yet fully completed those classes? Will I have to wait until the next fall program? I am really hoping that is not the case, but I'm thinking my advisor may have given me th wrong information.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

You have to take the classes that count for the prerequisites. I will show an example. Lets say you have taken the following four classes and recieved those grades in them. A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1. You then multiply that number by the amount of credit hours it is. Example

A&P 1- A 4X4

A&P 2- B 3X4

Micro- C 2X4

Hum- D 1X3

You continue to do this until you have done all of your prereqs for the program. You have to have 120 points, including the NAT score, for them to even review your application. Good luck!

Awesome! Thank you. What about the NAT scores? Do I calculate the raw scores? Just the 5 sections? Or all sections?

Thank you,

Joy

hi, just jumping in to answer your question about calculating the NAT points

Take your raw scores for the following sections: Academic aptitude, Reading Comp & Natural Sciences and multiply the total by .64

add that total to your scores for your pre-reqs and you should have your total points...don't forget that only these classes count towards your scores...DEP2004, PSY1012, SYG2000, BSC2085C, BSC2086C, MCB2010C, & MAC1105.

let us know what you come up with...good luck! :)

Thank you for your help! I am not super happy with my points, I have a total of 190 and I do not have enough time to go back and take the NAT. The spelling part of the NAT was really hard, it was words that I did not know so I was left guessing. I have a bachelors of science degree so I am hoping that will help me stand out. Oh well- guess we will see. Does anyone know when they let you know? I am thinking probably by december. I hate waiting- I am so impatient.

jthomas32,

ya i completely agree that the spelling was ridiculous...even though i did good with it, it was probably just i got lucky because some words i have never even seen or heard before. i dropped my application off on friday and the lady said that to expect to hear something eight weeks after october 1, so we should all know hopefully the first week or two in december.

Another Spring '12 hopeful here :) If all goes as planned I'll be accepted into the evenings/weekends program at the Deerwood Center. I'm nine months pregnant and already have a preschooler, so days aren't an option for me right now.

I've already taken my prerequisites and earned 120 points for them. Now I just need to take the PSB-NAT and get my CPR cerification taken care of.

The PSB-NAT is giving me anxiety. I'm wondering how much geometry is on the test? Are the math problems mostly in word problem format? Are the test questions harder than those in the ARCO book that was recommended by the college?

Good luck everyone!

The NAT math part is all word problems, some are fractions. You have to answer quickly. What brought my score down was that I was taking a while to answer and I did not get to answer a lot of the questions. Good luck!

Another question for those of you who have taken the NAT...

How difficult is the verbal section of the test (antonyms, synonyms, analogies)? I have 3 different study guides and I'm finding them incredibly difficult to get through. The analogies on the sample PSB-NAT that is provided on the PSB site are much, much easier than those in the study guides. I'm wondering if I'm worrying over nothing.

Any input is greatly appreciated!

the best advice I can give is to learn how to eliminate the wrong answers first. answer as much as you can...the only thing that counts are the correct answers. there were lots of word problems...learn how to pick out the info you need and ignore the info you don't need to solve the problem.

Specializes in Answering phones and studying. ;-).

I agree with NJ. Be speedy with the clicking. Don't take long to answer questions and don't skip.

I used this site and it helped me tremendously. scroll all the way down to see links to the topics you can study. Time yourself...5 min for 20 questions...that is about the pace you will need to be going to increase your percentage of right answers (remember only the correct answers count) well maybe that is a little fast but that was my strategy. Review your basic anatomy and review the empirical Chemistry laws..youll see what I mean in the Science sections.

If you are a visual learner, let me know, I have lots of resources for that...that is how I learn best so I have a library of videos and interactive sites.
