FSCJ Spring 2012 Hopeful w/???s

Published

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting here. I am in the middle of tackling the pre-reqs for FSCJ nursing program. I am really hoping to get into the SPring 2012 program (fingers crossed!!) But I'm a little confused about something.

I will be taking my last two classes in the fall, Micro and AP2. My advisor told me that I can apply for the program while I am taking these classes....my question is, if I apply to the program before the Oct. 1 deadline how will they be able to calculate my points for Micro and AP2 if I have not yet fully completed those classes? Will I have to wait until the next fall program? I am really hoping that is not the case, but I'm thinking my advisor may have given me th wrong information.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Hi everyone :) I am also applying for spring 2012 RN (ADN) program. So far I have 117 points from classes, but I am horrible at standardized testing (I freeze). Have my test date for 9/10. Remember, ENC1101 counts towards those points. From the nursing packet there are 9 pre-req classes used in the points calculated:

BSC 2085C 4 credit hours

BSC 2086C 4 credit hours

MCB 2010C 4 credit hours

MAC 1105 (or higher math) 3 credit hours

Humanities 3 credit hours

DEP 2004 3 credit hours

ENC 1101 3 credit hours

PSY 1012 3 credit hours

SYG 2000 3 credit hours

points from above are calculated multiplying the credit hours x grade using the following values:

A = 4

B = 3

C = 2

Max score you can get for classes = 120

Max score you can get for NAT = 120

Max points you can get for health-related work experience (LPN, medical corpsman, respiratory therapist, EMT, paramedic, or Florida State College trained medical assistant only...no other work experience, other than listed, will apply) = 20

Max points one can get = 260

Unless this has changed in the last 4-5 months, these are the numbers directly out of the Associate Degree Nursing (RN) packet. So, the NAT is a heavy weight in the scoring (which is why I am a bit on edge on that front).

Hope this info. helps! :)

In addition, the following information is PSB-NAT scoring (an example):

Academic aptitude 65

Reading comprehension 26

Natural science 55

Total 146

take the total and multiply by .64

146 x .64 = 93.44

Total points towards RN (ADN) program = points from NAT + points from classes

**Total Student points must be 120 or higher for consideration into the program (per nursing packet)

Hello all, I just applied for Spring 2012 with a 200.48. It looks like fall semester cut off was 199 something and they accepted 144 people so I am really hoping that my scores make it! Keeping my fingers crossed for the next 3 months!

I'm surprised more people are not posting about applying. Anyone else mind sharing when you apply, points, and day or nights please. Thanks.

Hey everyone! I am a Spring 2012 hopeful! I have taken all of my pre-reqs and will be taking the NAT on Sept. 10. I do somewhat well on tests so hopefully I do ok. So far I have 112 points with my classes. Not the best I could've done, but ok for me. I just have to do well on the NAT. I hear its rough, but I am looking over the links some of you have provided and also some other links I've found..so wish me luck. And good luck to you guys as well!

Hi everyone, first time posting :)

I have my NAT scheduled for next week...very nervous

I have 110 on my pre-req ( excluding Micro, DEP and Soc - which i'm taking this semester), I'm applying for spring 2012. Crossing my fingers I get a good score on my NAT and get in.

Hi michele742

your 117 points is it from all the classes you listed??

Hi michele742

your 117 points is it from all the classes you listed??

Yes :) I have "A" in everything except for English in which I got a "B". I have a total of 79 credit hours, and of those I have straight "A's" except for English. My GPA is 3.96 (I said 3.98 earlier, but I looked and it's a 3.96). I have an general AA degree, and I just finished my last pre-req for the program that I needed, which was chemistry (got an A). I barely graduated high school, but I made darn sure my college transcripts were solid.

I am glad I have those points just from my classes, because I am HORRIBLE at standardized tests and I know this is a huge weakness for me. I am not expecting to blow out the PSB-NAT...I just need to do well enough to be competitive with total points...standardized tests scare me to death! :o

Please forgive me about going on about my grades...It was a huge struggle to pull off what I did in college, and I'm just really happy that it paid off. Having said that, when it comes down to it, my grades won't get me into the program...at this point, only the PSB-NAT will get me a spot, and so I too am anxious and nervous about it all.

Congrats an you grades michele742! you should be proud of your accomplishment! You'll do great on the NAT :).

I calculated my points wrong,I will have to finish this semester before i can apply...so it will be for summer 2012...a little disappointed :(

I'll be taking the NAT in 2 weeks....and then again in 3 months - his should help me bring my points up.

Good luck to you!

Thank you smnurse :) You are very sweet. Bottom line is the standardized testing. I know a lot of people who had C's and B's on the pre-reqs and aced the NAT or TEAS (for BA program) and got in ahead of others who may have had great "A" grades but did poorly on the test. So, it's a balancing act :) These tests balance things out...I still don't like them...lol! :) Good luck to you too!

Hey everyone! I am applying now too!!! I am a little confused, I saw one person say that max you can get on the NAT is 120? Is that right?

I thought you added up your reading comprehension, natural science, and academic aptitude scores....multiplied by .64 and there it is.....an I wrong?

I calculated mine to be 133.76, than I added that to my 106 gap points to get 239

I am so stressed about all this! I applied to UNF, had an interview and than was put 5th on the waiting list....With only 42 accepted I was happy to get so close, but close doesn't really mean anything if you don't get in :(

Will someone clarify if I am calculated my score correctly? My prereqs are all A's accept enc1101 was a B (will they take my A from enc1102?)

okay totally messed up!

My GPA points are 117 (120 if they take my enc1102 score instead)

and I am having trouble figuring out my NAT score

academic ap : 43?

reading comp: 31

science : 57 ?

so 83.84

Thats really bad!!! Yikes!

So I will be applying with a 200.84

im applying to the spring 2012 with 200.4.....talk about cutting it close. I have 117 GPA and 83 on NAT> I wish I had another opportunity to take it, there just isnt the time now :(
