FSCJ Spring 2012 Hopeful w/???s

Published

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting here. I am in the middle of tackling the pre-reqs for FSCJ nursing program. I am really hoping to get into the SPring 2012 program (fingers crossed!!) But I'm a little confused about something.

I will be taking my last two classes in the fall, Micro and AP2. My advisor told me that I can apply for the program while I am taking these classes....my question is, if I apply to the program before the Oct. 1 deadline how will they be able to calculate my points for Micro and AP2 if I have not yet fully completed those classes? Will I have to wait until the next fall program? I am really hoping that is not the case, but I'm thinking my advisor may have given me th wrong information.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Hopefully it won't be much longer.

Yes, I too confirmed it. I confirmed that the program director was there last week until Wednesday...it is this week that she is off and won't be back until Dec. 5th. I was told directly from her 8 weeks from Oct. 1. and yes, as Healy pointed out we are at the 8 weeks already. sigh.....I believe this director is not new, as her name has been on the program for years (even back when I applied in 2003). I too, was told that letters won't be signed until next week. So, if correct, then we won't be looking at getting the letters until around December 9th. Darn!

The program contact is still there but the Director of Nursing quit. Plus we have big controversy over the exit Hesi minimum score being raised 150 points this term. Not making excuses, but they are swamped.

They have 6-8 weeks to mail the letters, not for you to receive them.

I hear you, I was really hoping to know by the first week of December. I have all my family coming to town for the holidays and it will be very hard to get everything done at the same time!

end of 8th week was the 26th

I would just like to know if I'll have a job next month. If I don't get nights, I have to look for a new job.

Same here, and with a baby on the way? kinda would like to know...u know? haha.

What were your scores? In my term someone in the high 190s ended up in N/W. If you have over 200s and picked nights, you stand a good chance. I will warn you though, although it's the hardest to get into, n/w gets the least respect. A lot of the faculty dont like teaching at night. So its not like days where you can pick your professors. You get who you get. But it is totally do-able to work, have a family, and go at night! Just don't expect to have a clean house also :)

Even though a lot of people on this board seem to favor nights, I have heard that not a whole lot of people actually want nights/weekends (only on this thread, apparently...haha). One of the reasons I favor n/w is because the campus is right down the road from me...that and childcare would be easier in that my husband works days. Also, I have worked nights my entire adult life, so I would already be acclimated to going to school until 9-10pm and then studying until 3am (with three kids would be great to study while they are sleeping). :) Any little victory to make nursing school easier is welcomed :) But, if I get days, it definitely won't be the end of the world.

p.s. - just knowing if I got in at this point would be great...lol.

I think my score was between 225 and 230 - I submitted my application in early September, so I don't really remember! I'm sure that every term is unique with regards to how many students want n/w. Since I work for the college, I can't work at night...but I want to have my tuition paid :) so I really need to keep my job.I've taken some night classes in the past and it's worked well for me. I don't like the idea of being in class, ready to learn at 7am. I doubt my kids would care much for it, either.

If you got 225-230, I'd *guess* you're probably getting whichever section you want. Are they having Nights at North or Deerwood?

One good thing about this program, they really do scour your transcripts to make sure you get the highest points value possible. They also give you the warmer, cuddlier professors in first term to ease you in:)

I was told it's at Deerwood. That's great to know about the 'scouring' the transcripts. Just out of curiosity, I thought I read somewhere that applicants who already have an AA degree from FSCJ get consideration first over say the person transferring in from another institution....is that true? Or is it strictly based on points?
