    FSCJ Spring 2012 Hopeful w/???s

Shiverphone, one of my friends got a call on the first day of CLASSES! Don't give up yet. If you do get declined, the letter will tell you your number on the list.

Don't buy the $150 they say they recommend. Littman has a great lightweight stethoscope for around $50. The Cardiology one is HEAVY.

FSNA sells former students uniform tops for $5. You can wear any white scrub bottoms ($13 at Wallymart) Do not buy forceps or the lab coat. You will never use either, I promise. You also only need one name badge even though they tell you to buy two. Pen lights come in your skills bag that you have to buy. The clip boards everyone uses are the plastic ones where you can store stuff inside (again about $15 at Wally) but you don't need that until week seven. Congrats you guys! Welcome to the madness!!

Shiver, that is exactly what you need. Basic BLS class but it must be American Heart Association accredited or else fscj will make you take it again. It's good for two years. But you can beat that price. There's a lady that does it in her house for $25. If you check the old threads you should be able to find her contact info.

If you got 225-230, I'd *guess* you're probably getting whichever section you want. Are they having Nights at North or Deerwood? One good thing about this program, they really do scour your transcripts to make sure you get the highest points value possible. They also give you the warmer, cuddlier professors in first term to ease you in:)

What were your scores? In my term someone in the high 190s ended up in N/W. If you have over 200s and picked nights, you stand a good chance. I will warn you though, although it's the hardest to get into, n/w gets the least respect. A lot of the faculty dont like teaching at night. So its not like days where you can pick your professors. You get who you get. But it is totally do-able to work, have a family, and go at night! Just don't expect to have a clean house also :)

The program contact is still there but the Director of Nursing quit. Plus we have big controversy over the exit Hesi minimum score being raised 150 points this term. Not making excuses, but they are swamped. They have 6-8 weeks to mail the letters, not for you to receive them.

You might want to call the nursing office and ask if they do waivers. It's not a fscj requirement per se, but it is a requirement the hospitals have when you start clinicals. You don't start clinicals in first term until week seven, so you may be out of flu season by then. But it would definitely be an issue/requirement by the time your fall semester rolls around. I'll ask my clinical instructor and see if she knows.

Y'all know our nursing director left, right? There's an interim person right now. Could be a reason it's taking so long for you guys. Fourth termers also had the exit Hesi this week :) I'd bet you guys start finding out in the next few days! They send out all envelopes at once but don't panic if others get letters and you haven't yet. I got mine a FULL WEEK after everyone else did! Try to enjoy your last few days of not knowing because once you're in, it's a mad dash to get everything done! :)

You think it's frustrating to wait, wait until you're in the program and they wait until the last minute to tell you anything! You can definitely do your BLS and flu shots now. Just don't do any of the other titers/shots yet. Good luck everyone!

    I hate it :[

Have you gone to a Clinical day yet? Some people who hate the classes just love clinicals, and vice versa. Can you talk to a counselor or one of your professors about it? I saw a couple of criers in my first term. It's not unheard of.

    FSCJ/FCCJ Fall 2011 Hopefuls

For FSCJ, the spelling and (I think) the academic aptitude sections don't count towards your score.

    FSCJ Summer 2011 Accepted!

Most teachers don't care if you use a previous version. The school has a contract with the book manufacturer so they do have a bit of an interest in keeping bookstore sales high.

    FSCJ Summer 2011 Accepted!

A few more and then I'll leave y'all to celebrate! You do not need to buy the lab coat! You'll never, ever wear it. If you get cold you can wear any white or blue sweater or jacket. Unless you are naturally messy or clumsy, you only need one uniform for term one. Get a good stethoscope but you do not have to get the Cardiology III that is recommended. Littman has some good ones for 40-50 bucks.

    FSCJ Summer 2011 Accepted!

congrats! Here's a few tips I wish someone had told me: Get your titers done asap. They may take a few days to come back. You don't *have* to get the Hep B titer if you need to save money. You can sign the declination form even if you've already had the full series of shots. Make sure your CPR class is American Heart Association certified. They won't accept anything else. You can wait to buy your uniforms, polo, shoes, name badge. You don't start clinicals until week seven so you don't have to get them immediately. Same with the items you'll need in your pocket protector. You do need a penlight, stethoscope, and blood pressure cuff by week two. You only need the BP cuff to take 30 BPs for health assessment class. Borrow one from someone or get a cheap one. You don't need it embroidered! Lol. The Box of books from the bookstore is more expensive than buying from Amazon or B&N. It is the only way to get online assess to their skills videos so if you feel you need those... Some people swear by them and others never use them. Personally, I found the skills all on YouTube and saved the money. Don't buy the Tabers book. You'll never use it. Buy an old, dirt cheap med term book online if you don't buy the box. Seriously, buy one off half dot com for 75 cents. You don't need the expensive dosage calc book either. The nursing tutor page on BB has everything you need! Good luck!

Lindsayy, you can do CPR and flu shots now but wait on the titers until you get your letter. They have set dates that you have to do the tests after. In my class they were still calling people on the first day of classes to offer open spots. Don't panic yet :)
