FSCJ Nursing-Summer 2015

Published

I haven't seen any thread for Summer 2015 Nursing Program for FSCJ, so I decided to create this one. There has been slight changes made to the program and to the prerequisite requirements.

Is anyone else planning to apply for the program? Any tips?

Words of encouragement?

Have you taken the HESI?

Is this your first time shooting to the program?

Be Positive Future Nurses!!

I wonder if there are less people applying historically than for spring and fall start? Anyone knows any statistics on it? There are only 96 seats, as opposed to 144 for other semesters.

Did everyone applying for Summer 2015 take the HESI yet?

Just a word to the wise from someone who has been through the program...the first term of nursing school is the toughest one you'll have by far. FSCJ nursing cuts their summer semester down to 14 weeks so if you start in the summer then you only have 14 weeks to do the work that people who start in other terms get 16 weeks for. Just something to think about. 2 weeks doesn't sound like a lot but it makes a difference.

I started in a summer term that only had 12 weeks (they quickly realized they could never do that again!) so I know how brutal it can be having a shorter term to deal with!

It can be done but just something to think about.

Best of luck to you all xx

I didn't know that. How long are the other semesters, such as fall? 14 wks?

What does the first semester consist of? Are clinical during the 1st semester?

Fall and Spring are 16 weeks

For those applying for Summer term, or any veteran RN students that may be reading this-what, if any, are you doing (did you do) for preparation of the program(if accepted)? :headphone:

Term 3 student here. :) When you get accepted, you will receive a packet containing a lot of paperwork and things you must get submitted. There will also be a section on medical terminology and abbreviations and mathematical concepts you need to know by your first day. Generally, they give a test on the first day or during the first week (depending on the semester) on those terms/abbreviations and basic dosage calc. After that, you will be given more advanced dosage calc techniques to learn on your own time, which you will be tested on about two weeks later, and then IV calc formulas a couple weeks after that.

So my advice would be to relax until you get accepted. Enjoy it because the minute you receive that packet, you will be hopping to complete everything in time. Once you have your paperwork done, I would make sure you understand the dosage stuff inside and out. You will be taking those tests in between regular class tests, and believe me, you want your time to be dedicated to your class material, not math. Also, every time I get a dosage calc question on a class exam, I get happy because that's three points I know I got right. ;-)

But up until the packet arrives, honestly, don't stress yourself. There will be plenty of time for that once you're in the program, I promise you.

Does anyone know which pages of the application packet need be submitted? Also, since there is no spot to select for Summer with deadline Dec 1 - Feb 1, did you just write it in? Or how did you mark it to signify you're applying for Summer 2015?

Does anyone have an idea what number of points approximately will get you a seat in the program, based on the new revised packet? Do you find you gained more points or less with the weighted grades/new point system? Thank you

I think the fact that you are submitting the application within this window, by itself will indicate that you are applying for the summer 2015 term. But you can always shoot Cheryl James an email asking for clarification.

It's hard to gauge what an "idea number of points" will get you a seat. I've read through many of the past threads and looks like scores 179ish and up have got them seats.

The summer semester will only have 96 seats available and for Day time ONLY, according to an email I got from CJ.

If I did the math correctly with the new point system, I'm applying with 210.9 or 211 rounded up (I sure hope I'm right-fingers crossed). I'm mailing mine in today.

What are you all applying with?

If the micro course I took at another college gets on my transcript on time before the deadline, I should have 218 points. I got 101 on HESI and the rest is grades. How did you do on HESI, if you don't mind me asking?
