I scanned the threads and didn't see one for this class set up yet. I'm applying at the end of the semester. Anyone else?
If the Nursing Program is accepting letters of recommendation, then how does it all tally up? Will those letters be considered extra points or if they come down to two students to get the last seat they would take the one that has the letters of recommendation over the one without? I should make an appointment with the Nursing department to catch up, just so that I am not missing out on anything that could help me get into the program and get that much close to my goal!
Thanks guys :thankya:
I am taking Chem and A&P II this coming Spring 2010, would it be too soon for me to take the NAT, say mid-way thru the spring semester? In other words, will I have learned enought to have a shot at passing. I am trying to space it out so that I can re-take the NAT (if necessary) and apply as soon as I complete Micro in the Summer. Also, when did you all start studying for the NAT itself?
thanks,
NJ
Hi NJ
I have been planning and planning to take the NAT but everytime something comes up and I keep delaying it.
I am doing the same thing, trying to space it out. The application period for the Summer 2011 is OCT1 to FEB1, my goal is take the test this month, so that I could retake it again in Jan. if i need to.
I have been hearing so many different things about the science portion of the NAT. Some say that it was all microbiology and chemistry questions, and then I hear that it pulls all the questions from AP1 and AP2. I have no idea what to expect, I am wondering if I know enough being halfway through Micro, to take the test yet.
I have already taken AP1, AP2, CHM1032c and now I am in Micro. Myself and some of my classmates that I am taking Micro with have all gotten together to study some of the material from our Allied Health test booklets that we purchased. I started studying the booklet and all my AP1, AP2 and CHM material back in July. At this point I am ready to get it over with.
KT, I admire your dedication to your studies.
I think you are more ready than you think. Go ahead and get it over with. I have heard there is minimal micro and general chem principles on the NAT. My anxiety comes from the fact that Chemistry and I don't mix! I had to take a W last semester b/c I was so lost. Keep me posted and good luck!

I just realized that I put OCT1 to FEB1 for the application period for Summer term, I meant Dec 1 to Feb 1. (sorry)
NJ thanks I appreciate that , my husband and I decided that it would be best for me if I stopped working and continue my studies full time, so I cant slack up, I have to keep it moving because right now we only have one income in the household and we have a little 3 year old :) The sooner the better.
I will definitely keep you posted, and good luck to you as well. :flwrhrts:
I did Humanities, Psych and Hum Growth online 8 wks each. Sometimes there is a lot of writing so be prepared. I usually try to only do one writing class at a time. With the 8 wk online classes, you could knock out 2 of those in one semester. And I would never, ever do Chemistry, A&P or Micro online though. That's just me. I would highly recommend taking Medical Terminology online. There is a lot of memorization but it really helps later on in other classes.

I'm not getting emails notifying me of this thread... hm. weird.
I'm a mom, too - I have a 3 year old and a 12 year old. :)
I got a test prep book for the NAT but honestly, it didn't help at all. I still did very well on the test.
I took 14 credit hours last summer while I was working full time. It was rough. 8 week online courses... well, it depends on the class and on the instructor. I'm taking humanities online 8 weeks and it's pretty easy, but there are 3 quizzes and a discussion due every week. I'm regretting taking Human Growth online - it's a real pain and we have a 10 page paper due. It's a team project, but those really suck because no one is ever on the same timeline.
I like hybrid science courses - where it's half online and half in the classroom. I took a hybrid chem class and it was awesome, so I took A&P II and Micro as hybrids, too. But I guess it all depends on your learning style.
I studied very little for the NAT and did fine...best advice I could give would be to do practice questions to work on time management and getting back into the mindset of taking an educated guess at the questions ya know.
The NAT is like all standardized tests in that it is more about your ability to deduce the best answer and answer all of the questions in the allowed time than anything else...
I practiced timing myself through practice questions to work on my pace.
Also, in the reading comprehension section I did not read the entire passage as it takes too much time away from answering the questions. Instead I read the question to see what key phrases it asked about and then scanned the passage until I found the information needed (usually verbatim in a single sentence).
Best of luck!! Don't overthink it :)
