So... Term II schedule is out. Everyone is in what I've decided to call "super secret planning mode" to maximize their clinical experience/ instructor preference/ personal schedule... I'm struggling with the decision as I'm sure a lot of you are as well... the clinical site is a biggie as that means for some people driving completely across town, wanting to get the very best and most varied clinical experience is of course a goal of all nursing students, and sometimes personal commitments can play a big role in your choice of section... Anyone else with young children concerned about the early clinical hours and getting kids off to school/daycare? At least it's better than the ominous lottery... dum dum dum lol. We're all hanging in there though and in the end it will all be worth it.... Finals are right around the corner and I know we're all a little antsy but I am fortunate to have wonderful people in my section now and although I am sad to lose some of them (I am positive we will all be split intentionally or unintentionally with schedules and available slots) but look forward to next term! :heartbeat

So sorry it has taken so long to answer-- call it lala land of studying! In the end I got a laptop- it i heavier than the ipad, but it allows the full features of the ebooks (espeically searching/highlighting etc.)-- plus I have resorted to the fabulous rolling backpack thing- don't knock it till you have the enormous amount of "stuff" to bring!!! Lol I will type notes along with the power points in class, and can more easily follow along/ highlight concepts in the e-book, as well. I ended up getting the paper books too- elsevier worked something out for me and I was able to add them on after the fact (which I am very thankful for). I needed to physically SEE some of the diagrams/tables next to the text (in the e-books sometimes they are separate- and it makes it a bit more confusing) there are pros and cons to both- most people in my class have both, some just the paper books, and they have certainly come in handy. At the end of the day finding what works best for you takes a bit of trial and error. Personally I don't feel like the Ipad had enough features to make it worth purchasing one (we actually still have the ipad- we won it in a christmas raffle, and I do use it from time to time to read some of my books when we are on the go/ flying etc. b/c of it being light and portable- but b/c I prefer to type my notes-- taking notes/highlighting isn't possible when reading on the ipad). Hope it helps and best of luck! :)

Thanks ladies :) I will be skipping the polo for tomorrow then... :) I agree... I am sitting here (for hours actually) trying to streamline a calender for All of the classes tests, content, due dates, days in class and out etc. and it is quite cumbersome. :/ Well see you all tomorrow :)

Still clueless about attire for tomorrow over here too... I suppose I can wear the pants and leave polo shirt in my car if I don't need it. Does anyone know about shoes situation? All white and all that or any shoes for tomorrow..?

I'm on days as well and currently working full time at a pediatric office. I will need to cut back to about 2-3 days per week, I am hoping to remain there throughout the program as my ultimate goal is to continue in Peds. :)

I actually called the deer wood campus and got them last Friday, that is much closer to my side of town and they were very helpful. Might be an option if they still have packets available and you live out towards the beach/ south side. (904)928-9973 deerwood campus bookstore

194.36 was the rumored cutoff although my packet did not say one way or another so I'm not certain. Good luck future classes :). Hang in there and we'll see you in the summer :)

iPad is working well for me so far, I have downloaded all of the books through the app vital source bookshelf, so whether or not I am connected to the Internet I can read whenever. I take the iPad with me so when I was at the dr. Today for example i took it out and continued reading cho. 1 of pharmacology. The notes function is something i am still working with. For that I always prefer to handwrite anyway... So carrying a notebook to jot down information and transcribe information (for me it also helps go cement the concepts to see it,hear it, write it). All in all so far i am pleased. i think a laptop would do well also, would allow you the ability to cut and paste into word documents and complete assignments all in one place. I understand the apprehension about new and electronic books.... I am hopeful that it continues to work well but will make surer to budget for the paper books should i need them at some time. Good luck Melissa... Let us know how the books are working for you as well, Lowiie- I thought the exact same thing about the pocket protector... I ended up getting a white one (with pink accessories :)) from medsaver, although after reading over the materials it does not specifically mention color anywhere. To be safe I might get a white one as a backup, would hate to have a technicality interfere with clinicals. :) and no! No idea about the raffle and i think i bought a total of 10 tickets!

Loaded the ebooks... They are accessible from my iPad, iPhone as well as the Mac i installed them on as promised. I am still trying to get a handle on the highlighting function (it is especially difficult on the touch screens for me) otherwise it seems to be going pretty well :) will keep you posted on how the ebooks are working (or not) for me :)

I put a lot of thought into the books as many of you have as well. Ultimately the ebooks will work for me (hopefully). After talking to a current student who was out in the atrium she was telling me how the ebooks have worked well for her, and reiterated they are not for everyone. I already have an iPad, regardless of whether or not the books are on it, so for me I am going to give it a try and if needed purchase the print books prior to class. The current student (forgive me I am awful with names) commutes from the beaches , which I do also, so for her she said the ebooks allowed her to make study sheets and highlighted portions of the text which she would have read aloud over her car speakers, like your iPod playing music, allowing her to review as she was on the go. For me this is incredibly helpful, along with acess from multiple locations via the web ( as I am very forgetful) I also found some good sales on stethoscopes and other supplies on medisave.com Wishing you all a very happy holidays and I'm looking forward to getting started in january :)

I hear you squirmy! I am hopeful tomorrow goes well and everyone gets their questions answered (once, and only once) It seemed a bit redundant although certainly could have been worse On a side note.... Hamburger from the cafeteria = gross See you all tomorrow :)
