FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.

Lawp3,,,please email me so I can give u my information [email protected]

also do we have classes/clinicals on fridays this semester?

You will find all of this out at orientation when you do the lottery and pick your schedule. As another person said, every section has a different schedule. I do not have school on Fridays, because that is the schedule I picked and was lucky enough to get.

When they give you the available schedules at orientation, have your first choice but also have a second, third, and fourth in case those sections fill up. They will announce it at orientation when a section closes. The lottery is there to make it fair. You pick by whatever # you draw. I was lucky and drew 29 and my friend drew 34, so we were able to get into the same section.

We have not been told anything about new schedules for us, and we certainly have no idea about what first term will be.

ETA: I also agree with what another person said on here. This program can be very disorganized but like she said, if you accept it right off the bat and roll with it when things change, you'll be fine. Working is doable depending on your job. My job was not willing to work with my schedule, so I had to leave it, because I will always choose nursing school over work. Fortunately, I have enough to get me by and can do small jobs here and there if necessary. If you can get away with not working that's great! I prefer it. I understand for some, it is not possible, but plenty people have had to and graduated right along with everyone else! But seriously, get it in your head right away that this process will be a disoriented mess...especially orientation. Prepare to have a headache. lol

i sent a request to join the facebook group..also do our scrub pants have to be from meridy's? what about the lab coat? can i just use my old one from microbiology or do i need one from meridys?. I already ordered my shoes, stethoscope and bp cuff...what is a skills kit?

Pants can be bought from anywhere. I got a great pair from walmart for $15. The more pockets the better. I did not buy a lab coat and I have yet to regret it. You're not allowed to wear it when you are on the floor with patients. If you get cold easy wear a long sleeve white shirt under your white top.

For the skills kit we had an order form in our packet. I think I did it online. I think it was @ $100. They were shipped to the school and the profs handed them out. Not sure if they are doing that differently now. It contains needles, syringes, vials, foley kit, tubing, piggy back bag and quite a few other things. You will use it for practice and skills simulation.

Pants you can buy from anywhere. There is a uniform outlet on blanding and one on university. And less expensive than meridy's. Honestly, I really wouldn't worry with a lab coat. You can't use them during patient care..so you pretty much don't wear it. Shoes can be from anywhere just can't be backless clogs and must be all leather..including the tongue of the shoe. I wear sketchers sneakers. Skills kit is practice supplies. Foley kit, dressing change kit, syringes, needles..stuff like that.

For 2nd term they just give you your schedule. There is no lottery. You stay with your same section and pray you get something good.

If you find someone willing to trade they will allow that. If you like your group you'll just suck it up and make it work.

Good! I am glad! I want to stay with my section. I had heard different things about the lottery second term, but I am glad to know there isn't one other than it leaves us up to having no choice but I'd like that more than getting separated from our section.

We received an email with the link to buy it sometime before class started with a deadline date included. It was like 75.00 or something.

I couldn't find anythig in the packet on where to get it at. I saw the pocket thing with the pen and scissors and light on that merits site but not the skills kit.

We do not for first term, however, we have been told for Second term and future terms, we should have saturday and sunday clinicals.

Okay thank you so much! I wasn't sure just wanted to make sure I had everything I needed!
