Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.
Does anyone know how many students apply every semester roughly? Also I filled out my FASFA and I qualify for a grant if I get accepted do I go to financial aid and will they apply that? Will I be able to use a Pell grant for the program?
According to Ms James in an email she sent me, 300-400 students apply each semester. I think you will be able to use your grant but most likely it will not cover everything.Just to be safe it would be good to apply for the worksource scholarship as soon as you get your acceptance packet.
The scavenger hunt thing is something new they started for Summer term, and yes, the purpose is to orient you with the campus and the services that are offered to students in general and to nursing students specifically. I will tell you that the staff is annoyed by it but they will sign it without a second thought, so it really only takes about an hour to do it all.Orientation is mandatory. We were told that if we didn't make it to orientation, we were out. I don't know if there is any leeway with that, but if you haven't figured it out yet, I will go ahead and tell you that they do not care about outside circumstances. When they moved our semester up without notice, many people lost their vacation time and the money they put into it, and the response to the complaints was, "If you cannot make those changes, you can always choose to forfeit your seat." The point of the hell they put you through the first semester -- and you'll understand what I mean when you go through it -- is to see who really wants it. It sounds harsh and it IS harsh but it's also a competitive program. Their train of thought is that there are other people who would happily move a mountain to get your seat in the program. You have no idea the uproar I saw at Orientation when it was announced, "Hey, FYI, you're all starting school next Monday. So...you've got seven days to get things in order!"
There are days where the disorganization and constant changes are frustrating but contrary to what people say, it's not the complete disheveled mess it's made out to be. It's annoying to say the least but the program IS manageable, I promise. And you will find the nursing students are usually quite willing to help other students out. Each term tries to help the students coming behind them and so on. I will be around when you guys come in the Fall and if you need help or some words of reassurance to tell you that it's not as overwhelmingly horrendous as you are going to think it is (and you WILL think that), find me on campus or through email or FB. I'm always willing to help when I can.
Hang in there. Your letters should be in any day now.
Wow, so orientation really is mandatory :-/
How many days is orientation? Is it always a week before class starts?

And how many usually get in out of the 300-400 students?
Hello all. I've been following all of your comments for weeks now. I am too hoping to get into fall, (fingers crossed). Just an FYI, Angie Shrowder emailed me back stating that we should receive our letters around the first week of August, which means a full 8-9 weeks. I hope this is wrong information because the anticipation is killing me. Also, when I dropped off my application I was told they were expecting clost to 300 applications.
I really hope to get it this week!!!
So my understanding is the fall class will have 144 seats. Is that 144 seats for night/weekend and 144 seats for the day or 144 total split between the day class and the night/weekend class? Also I think they just tell every student who asks when letters will be sent out the full 8-9weeks regardless of when the letters will actually be sent out/received.

I REALLY need to know the orientation and starting day so that I can move my flight dates accordingly :-/. Last year my friend got her acceptance letter 6 weeks after turning in her application, and she applied for fall term as well, so I don't know what's taking them so long...
I'm thinking of moving my flight dates, and instead of flying Aug 10-25, I'd fly Aug6- Aug17 (12 days)
Do you guys think that's a safe change? Cause lets say if Nursing classes start August 25th and orientation is usually a week before (Mon Aug 18th). I'd be arriving back to The U.S a day before orientation....
Dude. This is crazy. That none of us have received letters. This is the longest they've taken in years. I don't understand and I'm just getting upset now
I know. I hope they don't take until the first week of August because the requirements prior to attending orientation seem like alot. Also, if they wait until the first week of August, they have to give you time to accept or decline your seat. They also have need time to contact students who are in line to accept the declined seats. I pray they don't take that long because it will be a mess for us and the department.

I pray Angie Shrowder is incorrect. That would put a strain on us and the department as well. Hopefully that is her generic response.
