FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.

If it is true there is nothing anyone can do about it now just if you have to apply find a friend (or even a po box) on the the north side near the school and use that address

If you have to reapply I mean*** I really hope we get our letters next week sometime. I guess I should start studying for the hesi exam just in case.

I'm trying to stay hopeful that we find out this week. Especially because on other semester forums they mention being told they will find out after 8 weeks, but they end up getting letters at 5 weeks. My poor mailman is going to be tired of me.

The first week of the program is a rough one to miss. You'll be taking a dosage calc and medical terminology exam that week, most likely. In addition, you will miss being introduced to your instructors and will miss the review of the syllabi and the expectations for each class. Each of these things are important.

Another thing to think of is that the nursing program may not adhere to the FSCJ calendar - for example, FSCJ nursing students started this current Summer semester a week before the FSCJ calendar...if this happens next year that means you would miss not one but two weeks of school!! I wouldn't advise either.

When they tell you not to make any personals plans whilst in the program (which Ms. James would probably tell you if you talk to her), they are saying that for your benefit - things are ALWAYS subject to change...we didn't get notified of the change to the start of the Summer semester until a week or two before it happened - this isn't unusual.

If your travel plans cannot be changed, it may be best to postpone your entry into the program until the following semester. It's difficult enough to get though the first term without being a week (or two) behind!

Just my two cents (from someone who is in 4th term).

Now I'm EXTREMELY worried  I actually moved the flight dates and will be back on August 25, thus I'd only be missing the first day of class......now that's **IF**the nursing program follows the fscj calendar. Does anyone know exactly when the first day of fall 2014 nursing school starts ? Also is it true that you can only miss two days each semester??

I believe that classes start August 25th for Fall so you will miss that first day which isn't too bad. I'm not sure how long your trip will be - my concern if I were you would be missing orientation which is mandatory, I believe. From what I understand, if you don't go to orientation then you don't start the program - you might want to confirm this once you get your acceptance if there is a conflict with the dates.

As for missing days...that rule applies only to clinical days really. Since the professors have to be on-site for all clinicals, if you miss a day you are at their mercy of being able to make it up - and you will have to make it up. I think most of the syllabi say if you miss 2 clinical days then you're out. If you are tardy twice that counts as missing one clinical day. As for class, they don't require you to be there because this is college and they expect you to manage your own education - of course it's in your best interest to be in class every day.

Hope that helps.

For the ?'s about being from a certain part of town, I was told by The lady in charge that starting for the summer you no longer needed to live in county just have to be considered instate and you would be grouped with everyone else. I guess before last semester they did Duval/Nassau county and then alloted 10% of the seats for other counties, but they still had to be in Florida. She told me if they have you in the system as out of state you have 0 chance of getting in(problem I had) So I wouldn't worry about what part of Duval you live in, as long as you are in the system as in state you are good!

I work till 5 so I cant check my mail till later but I am assuming since its almost 1 and no one has posted that they got their letters today that means they still haven't sent them :-(

@lucy2811 Thank you but you're confusing me here, first you tell me that missing first day isn't too bad, later on you state that missing the first day/orientation is mandatory and if I don't attend I'm expelled. My trip is from Aug 10th and I return to the United States August 25th at 4 pm. I tried calling Cheryl James multiple times and left her voicemails but she hasn't returned my calls. Is there someone else I can talk to regarding this matter?

Thank you!

Has anyone talked to Cheryl James about the pre req list? Is it officially chemistry and not sociology for spring 2015?
