Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.
To those of you who have taken the hesi a2 before: Does the math section have algebra and geometry problems or is it just basic like arithmetic, fractions, adding/sub., conversions, etc?
Very basic elementary math, plus there is an on screen calculator! By far the easiest section on the HESI!
I think I just have too much time on my hands. I really want to know if I got in. I was really confident with my score of 196 but i was looking at the cut of for fall 2011 was 199.xx and fall 2010 was 201.24..I know that was a few years ago but it still makes me nervous. It seems like the cut off is higher in the fall.
So what is with the Workforce deal? I know they pay tuition and you apply after acceptance into the Nursing program but there has to be more to it. Do they help you find work while in school or is it volunteer jobs? Is it only for the Nursing program? What office to go apply at?
Worksource (now called CareerSource) is only offered for limited access, in demand programs such as nursing. You apply though their website after you are accepted into the program. You are then contacted by a representative who goes through all of the paperwork, etc. you must gather and tests you must take to qualify. Once the tests have been taking (nothing to stress about) and paperwork turned in, you are assigned to an on-campus representative based on your zip code. Once you have registered for classes, you turn in your schedule along with financial aid report and book list - the representative will then facilitate paying FSCJ for the tuition and will give you a book voucher to cover the required books - you have to take the receipt from the bookstore back to them. Every month you must turn in an attendance record (you sign each day you were in class and the have the teacher sign it at the end of the month). They will help you find a job, if you need one, however this is not required (as far as I'm aware). Hope that helps!
can you apply for other forms of finical aid like before you get accepted and at different campuses? I haven't been able to get any because I already have a degree but I was going to talk to a finical aid adviser to see if I could get any if I am accepted into the program. I just wasn't sure if I should wait until I got a letter or not.
The first thing you need to do is complete a FAFSA online. After the FAFSA is completed and submitted, it will immediately give you a breakdown of what grant and/or loan amounts you qualify for. Financial aid advisors can help explain this process and the results of the FAFSA but they cannot change it - financial aid is governed outside of the school. The financial aid office may be able to give you more information about scholarships as well, but again you can look these up online through the scholarships link in connections. Scholarships that are nursing specific will require confirmation of acceptance into the program before you can apply. Many scholarships will require that you are registered for classes before you can qualify for them. Hope that helps.
I applied for FAFSA but I didn't see anything about what I qualify for.
If you look at your SAR (Student Aid Report) in PDF format at the bottom of the first page it should say "Based on your EFC of xxx you may be eligible to receive a Federal Pell Grant of up to $xxx". A financial aid advisor could explain the breakdown for you as well as the loans you may have available, etc.
