FSCJ Fall 2014 hopefuls

Published

Hello everyone, I did not see a post for the fall 2014 semester, so I wanted to get it started. I applied to the 2014 summer semester and now I am waiting on my acceptance or denial letter. I am starting this forum just in case i do not get in for the summer. My total score right now is 169.96. I have 97 points for my classes and 72.96 points from the NAT. I am currently taking statistics and humanities, in hope of getting an A in both of them to boost my score up to 178.96. I made a C in A&P 1, my first humanities class and PSY1012. I also made a B in college algebra and that is what got my score down so low. I hope that the low cut off score trend continues to give me a good chance of getting in. The last 3 semesters were 175.96, 187 and 187. I am preparing to retake the NAT in late May to be in time for the June 1st deadline with plenty of time to study for the NAT. I look forward to meeting you all, and hear how things are going for you, so we can encourage and support one another.

Its okay. Summer A I took general psychology and got an A when I applied for the fall term I used my AP test scores from highschool that was only a C. I did pretty good on the NAT but only like 59% (like I scored higher than 59% of other people) on the science section so now I am worried I wont do well on the heisi test. If I knew they were going to change the test I would have retaking psychology in the fall with my other classes.

I applied for the fall with a 196. I just hope I get in so I don't have to take the new test. It worries . If I don't get in by the fall I am worried I will do worse on the heisi although I now have an A in psychology now a C (it just brings up my points by 6). If I had to I could always take another humanities class (I made a B in that) and shoot for an A and retake the hesi and apply for summer if I don't do good the first time around. I just don't want to wait around any longer.

It's not that bad in my opinion because the reading and math are so easy but the science is def harder than what's on the NAT. I'm going to take it again right before the spring deadline to see if I can raise my score a bit. All of my grades are good expect for my two Cs because I suck at English and the development psych class I took in 06 at a 4 yr college as a night class. I wish we were able to retake classes if we have a C cuz I would totally get a A now. My first two years of college right after high school were rough becuz I had to work two jobs to pay for it but because I did I didn't make great grades so now I'm paying for it :( and it hurts my chances at nursing school.

I wish we can retake classes we got a c in too. I got a C In A&P 1 and pysch. Check ur inbox. I sent u a pm the other day.

Hi Jaturner, check you inbox. I sent u a pm a few days ago.

well its been 4 weeks but its sunday. I guess no one got a letter next week. Maybe we will start getting letters next week or the week after...Even if we have to wait the full 8 weeks that is only 4 more weeks so yay!

The applicants from the last two terms got their letters the first week of July which will be next week...yea!!!

I know we are all getting very anxious to know something and get started on the list of requirements that needs to be completed.

ya but it took 5 weeks for the summer term to get their letters so i dont have my hopes up

I wonder what changes they are making to the application process? I wish they would start doing interviews or actually consider work experience for ACP/PCT work.

I also wish they would have done this when I turned in my application. I included a letter of recommendation from my nurse manager since I am currently in a PCT position and have been for over a year at my facility. This is the most basic form of nursing care and I believe ALL experience should be considered if it has to do with patient care - not just selected titles. That is why I included it in my application so at least they know I am working directly with patients - regardless of whether or not I am an EMT or CMA.

I believe the reason for not giving points for ACP/PCT employment is to do with the schooling that takes place to be in that position within the facility. If you think about it, in theory an ACP/PCT doesn't require beyond a high school level knowledge of anything medically related (even though many people in those positions are EXTREMELY knowledgeable) whereas the EMT and CNAs, etc. require additional schooling AND a certification. Granted, this seems a little unfair however I can see why the program is set up the way it is - otherwise you would have everyone who has given patient care in any capacity wanting points for it.

That is interesting that you say that. I have been looking at job postings at different hospitals bc I would like to find a entry level job in the healthcare field that doesn't require a degree/certificate in the field and experience like u said but PCTs are required to have some type of medical training and certification. They must have completed either an approved nursing program, medical assistant program, CNA program or EMT program along with the certification of which every program that applies to them. There was one hospital tho (St. Vincent's, I think) that will consider you if u challenged the CNA exam.

I have been gathering together different sources to study for the Hesi and I am going to put together a study guide (info taken from each source) of all the basic concepts that are most likely to be on the exam. If anyone is interested in getting a study guide give me your email address and I will send you a copy when I put it together. I have started on it already but those of u who are interested let me know when u plan on taking the exam so I can give the guide to u in a reasonable amount of time for u to study it.

Instead of waiting until I finish the whole thing, I will send parts of it out as I complete each subject. I am working on biology first.
