We're sorry we missed you, too!! We had a really good turnout. I think we had at least 15 people (I forgot to count). Butterflymom was loaded with info. I have a really long audio file to transcribe by tomorrow morning, and then I need to do some medical transcription after that because I'm a little behind. But I'll check the posts tomorrow afternoon/evening to see what others have posted, and I'll try to post anything else I can remember that hasn't already been covered.

It was great to see everybody, and we can't thank Butterflymom enough for taking her little bit of spare time to come prep us. She really put forth a great effort to give us as much helpful information as possible. She was really wonderful :redbeathe

I'm so excited about everything we learned. I want to post it all now, but I'm under deadline :uhoh3:

I am really sorry I missed it. I was really looking forward to it. I can't wait to see what you guys post about it.

Sorry you missed it; I was a little late there myself, but I can tell you what I got in general.

Mondays will always be testing day 3-5 (one test per week even though we have four classes.) Butterflymom, aka Jennifer, said that a PDA has been her best tool saving her lots of time (and she is an A student, although she says she may get her first B soon.) The grading scale is something akin to 94-100 = A; 87-93 = B; 80-86 = C--I'm sure I'm not exact at all but it is something like that; anything below 80 is a failing grade. She recommended getting the box of books as there are things that come with it that she finds helpful--one of which I believe is the E-book capability for the books which you use to download the books to your PDA where applicable. She said get a rolling backpack and get a watch that lights up as the room can be dark (also has a second hand--I think hers was called a Toy Watch? Anyone?

She said to share work in your "groups" -- so when given your study information for a quiz or test, split it up within your group so you don't have to do all the work yourself. Working together is going to be a plus for us all so I assume everyone will want to be a part of some study group. She said not to let them get too big or it will harder to get things done (too many cooks in the kitchen idea, I think.)

I know there will be much more, but that was my bit. I will check back to see others' synopses of the information.

Thanks so much to Jennifer for being there. And thanks to Natalie for making it happen as well. :)

It was great to meet you. I will see you on orientation day.

Thanks for posting the information you got from today's meeting. I'm sure it will be very helpful for those that, unfortunately, couldn't make it today.

Jennifer mentioned that be prepared for about 2-4 hours of studying EVERY NIGHT and expect to do A LOT of reading. You will choose your section during orientation by picking a number out of a hat to determine the order in which you choose...person with the lowest number picks first, then down the line. The section you pick will determine which professors you have, which days you have classes, and which hospital you will have your clinicals (just for the first term). Before each semester, you will register for a different section for a different clinical setting.

A big thanks again to Jennifer and Natalie for making this day so successful!!! :yeah:

We also had a little discussion about care plans, and Jennifer said she feels the professors really prepare you for writting the plans. I found a thread (one of MANY) that talks about the thought process behind care plans. I wanted to pass this information along to all of you in case you wanted to take a look

I think we ended up with around 24, if you count those who were standing. I enjoyed meeting everybody today, and I'm psyched for the Orientation now! Sounds like I should enjoy my next two weeks... before school takes over!! Thanks again Marina and Natalie! See ya'll on the 16th! :-)

It was very nice to meet everyone today. Thanks very much to butterflymom for taking the time to come talk to the group, to Natalie for putting it together and to Marina for helping Natalie join us. :)

Thanks Marina!! This is very helpful

My internet is sporadic today, and comcast can't get out here for a service call until Thursday, but I wanted to say thanks to Butterflymom and to everyone who was able to make it. Awesome questions and extremely helpful answers. Thanks you guys!

so glad i got to meet everyone today! it will be really nice to see some familiar faces at orientation.

butterflymom, thanks for all the great advice.

she suggested getting an ipod touch. she said it was great to use for power points in class since you're not allowed to have your phone out.

It was nice meeting everyone yesterday, it helped calm my nerves a little. Everyone seems so nice and I hope some of you will be in my section. The next few weeks I will be busy taking care of everything that I won't have time for once the program starts:)
