frustrating job search...

Are you only wanting to work in a hospital setting or have you applied to SNF, LTC, Home Health, Hospice, Clinics, and physician's offices as well? Hang in there, I KNOW you will get a job you love it may just take time! :icon_hug:

If you're being overly selective and only applying at hospitals, then you might run into obtsacles during a job search. As Ben stated, expand your horizons and apply at other types of facilities. Good luck and hang in there!

i have applied to hospitals in my area, ambulatory care centers, and various agencies. is it because its almost the end of the year that no one is calling? only one agency expressed interest, i am a little iffy about it because it is LTC and everything is manual, there are no computers, and they give a pharm/dosage calculations test. i was always taught with computer charting and giving out meds, so i think as a new grad LPN that would be very stressful for me.

I, too, have been perusing classified advertisements, doing online generated job searching with posting of resume within online apps...have had more success it seems when I post online to agencies or other companies.

Hang in....it's the holidays, after all. No one is leaving due to holiday bills from buying too many christmas/holiday gifts!

It's going to pick back up late February/early March, believe me!

I'm an old pro when it comes to picking out trends in job markets for nurses.

oh gosh i really hope i dont have to wait until late february almost 2 months before i get a job! this is really depressing, i've applied to 2 more nursing homes today, i dont understand why the saying goes that "theres a nursing shortage", doesnt seem like it to me!

December is not a good time to look for postitions per my HR Dept....wouldn't even post an ad for me when staff RN retiring Dec 31,st and person I'd hired Nov 15th for postion decided job wan't for her on Dec 5th.

You have to take in consideration need for orientation, staff all trying to get time off prior to expiring for year so staffing shortage, winter illnesses, holiday staffing etc......all reasons why rarely hire this time of year.

Are you making yourself available for any shift?

I don't know about NY, but the hospitals in the metro Phx area hire primarily RNs. LPNs work in LTC, SNF, etc..

Just because you learned on computerized equipment, don't shy away from paperwork systems. You should definitely learn! Computer systems fail but paperwork goes on forever.

P.S. I doubt you will have to wait for February. As soon as the holiday season winds down, you will start hearing from those you are applying to now.

i have been job searching for 3 weeks now, sending out my resumes, etc etc. just went for an interview yesterday, wouldn't u know i had to interview with 3 different people....i completely blanked out....i have never worked in a hospital or patient care setting before, except during clinical rotations.....i feel like once the interviewers saw that i had just graduated and this would be my first experience, i felt like they just should've put a big X on my forehead and my resume...i am feeling very discouraged at this point and wondering if anyone will hire me!!!

Go get the best pay and best experience - work in a nursing home.

Full time with frills - 7-3 = $21+ an hour

Full time with frills 3-11 = $24+ an hour.

Agency = $30 an hour.

As an LPN in a hospital you'll get the short end of the stick...

Go and knock on most nursing home doors and they'll be begging you to work for them...

Finally someone tells the truth. The LPN pay rates offered by the hospitals are absolutely pitiful around here. In addition, hospital work is harder with a more demanding pace. I am not putting my license on the line for a measly pay rate of $12.50 or $13 per hour when I can earn $20 hourly at a nursing home.

I will work at a hospital after I earn my RN license. However, working at a hospital as an LVN is not worth it to me at this time.

I'm sure the interviewer knew you were a new grad before you came in for the interview. Med calculations are simple math...don't let it bother you.

Did you send a thank you letter to the people that interviewed you? Did you ask questions during the interview? Did you make a f/u phone call after the interview?
