Woo Hoo!!! Congratulations to you both!!! I can't wait to hear about your experience. Please keep us updated. I am very interested in this program. I would love to hear updates about yall's progress! I'm so excited for yall :) As asked in another post, what do you think their admissions process if critical on? What do they look for? I will already have my MSN when I apply but I am still so nervous lol.

Thanks for all the info, everyone! Just so I can clarify, does the didactic portion of Frontier take a year? I see that it's 2-3 semesters for the clinical portion, but I'm wondering if the didactic part is just that first year or stretches a semester (or two) into the second year.

One more question - has anyone gotten in with less than a year of experience? The website says it's required but also says "other significant experience" will be considered. I'm a BSN student at the moment, and when I graduate in December I'll have 9 months' experience as a doula, plus I'm going to try to do my practicum on an L&D floor. But I know L&D jobs can be hard to get as a new grad, so I'm concerned about having to wait forever, while working elsewhere, until I can get one to get that year's experience and apply. I do plan to work at least part time while studying (I recognize the importance of nursing experience when going into a MSN program!), but I'm just hoping to start as soon as I can. Looking at the options.

Full time - the didactic portion takes 5 terms - there are 4 terms per year - so just over one year.

Part time - the didactic portion takes 7-8 terms - so about 2 years from Frontier Bound to starting clinicals.

YES. Though these nurses usually have significant experience in lactation, doula work or childbirth ed. It is not strictly required to have 1 year of L&D experience. I go back and forth on whether I believe it is necessary or not. I think the learning curve for CNMs who did not work in L&D is much steeper for those who did. Though there's a different type of unlearning that happens with experienced L&D nurses who become CNMs as well.

But to answer your question - quite a few of my classmates were accepted to the CNEP program with little to no L&D experience.
