Anyone apply to Frontier's CNM class 134? I'd love to connect with those eagerly awaiting acceptance results, like me!

Can someone break down the first semester for me? I am trying to figure out if working part time/PRN will be doable still. Thank you! =)

I can't tell you first-hand, but a student told me that working part-time and school full-time, or vice versa, is doable.

I work part-time and am enrolled at FNU part-time. This is doable. I am busy - every free moment is used to catch up on reading and assignments - but this is doable. I anticipate having to go to PRN or casual at work when I start clinicals. I used to pick up a lot more shifts before I was taking classes . I've had to say "no" to extra shifts, because there just aren't enough hours in the day. I need to make sure I allot time for homework.

At this point, working part-time is allowing me to pay my tuition as I go (I'd saved money over about a year before I started) - and my plan is to graduate from FNU with minimal student loan debt.

Part-time amounts to two courses per term. There are four terms per year.

Thanks for all the info, everyone! Just so I can clarify, does the didactic portion of Frontier take a year? I see that it's 2-3 semesters for the clinical portion, but I'm wondering if the didactic part is just that first year or stretches a semester (or two) into the second year.

One more question - has anyone gotten in with less than a year of experience? The website says it's required but also says "other significant experience" will be considered. I'm a BSN student at the moment, and when I graduate in December I'll have 9 months' experience as a doula, plus I'm going to try to do my practicum on an L&D floor. But I know L&D jobs can be hard to get as a new grad, so I'm concerned about having to wait forever, while working elsewhere, until I can get one to get that year's experience and apply. I do plan to work at least part time while studying (I recognize the importance of nursing experience when going into a MSN program!), but I'm just hoping to start as soon as I can. Looking at the options.

Thanks!

Im a student at Frontier and never worked as a nurse but have about 5 years as a doula and CBE. I strongly believe in this pathway as a viable option and that nursing is not necessary for midwifery. On a personal note, I've done very well academically and had no problems finding clinical sites. That said, I imagine finding a clinical site without nursing experience varies a lot by location. I did hear though that they might be removing that option (alternate birth related experience in lieu of the 1 yr of nursing) but I'm not sure if that's still true. I'd contact the admissions office to find out. If you end up working in another area I think that's totally fine. I would say the majority of my classmates are coming from other areas of nursing besides L&D. Hope this helps!
