So nice to hear from you! I have been doing more lurking than posting lately but I still love "the" forums. Yes, I am growing and I have always been encouraged by allnurses and the wonderful people that post here.;)

Congrats to all of you who have recently become students at Frontier! I have a question for you and those who are already seasonsed students at Frontier. How difficult was it to find a preceptor? I ask because I have been interested in their FNP program for some time. My biggest concern is locating a preceptor. I would appreciate any suggestions or guidance you can give. Thanks and good luck to all of you.

Hey Mona,

Here we are again. ;)Had a wonderful time at Frontier and looking forward to going back in April.

I have run into quite a few NPs and CNEPs in the weeks since we returned that have either attended Frontier or knew of someone who did. All had the same to say, great school!

Hope to find other Frontier grads on allnurses.

Congrats on admission to Frontier. I have tried twice with no luck. It seems to be very difficult to get in. I have been looking for similar programs. Does anyone know of program that is like Frontiers Bridge Program?

I'm thinking about applying in the next year or so. I may have an advantage on some of you though.....I grew up about 5 miles from Wendover! So it's really part of my heritage, as growing up, I mostly saw nurse practioners who were a part of FNS. If you all haven't seen Wendover in person, you are in for a wonderful surprise. Its absolutely BEAUTIFUL there!

Thank you for your response. I am 40 years old, thought maybe they were looking for younger students or I just did not make good impression on phone interview with Director of FNP Program I am the Director of Primary Care at a Community Health Center. I perform more public health nursing such as routine breast exams, cervical exams, and routine screenings of children. I work indirectly with (CNM) several graduates from this program. One CNM stated she had difficulty getting into the program as well. I have tried an online program previously and dropped due to inattentive instuctor. (Unable to get preceptor approved by instructor in timely manner. ) Have found several programs. I continue to put off -They are not Frontier.

Frontier has a recently new bridge ADN-MSN program I think started in 2005. It is located in Kentucky. The didactic course work online with 2-3 visits to Frontier over the duration of the program. Preceptors in your community for clinicals. Frontier has a major focus on nursing and not liberal arts. The school has an impressive heritage. School began, I think in the 1930. First Midwifes riding horses to patients homes to deliver babies. The down side to Frontier is the difficulty to gain admissions. I was told they only allow 20 student to enter the program at each term. They don't let you know what is holding you back on the admission. Frontier seems like a great school. I work with several midwifes who graduated from this program. I have heard one negative feedback which is admissions to the program which I can confirm. Look online http://www.midwives.org/academics.asp?id=162&pid=56 Great program.

I'm in Frontier now in the BSN-MSN FNP program I got my BSN on line thru Thomas Edison State College (cheaper that Frontier) they took all my credits, even my overseas college credits. The instructors were some of the fairest and it was definitly easier than Frontier. Don't forget if you do come to Frontier even though you are ADN by-passing your BSN, you are expected to function at a graduate level. The courses come thick and fast 12 week terms with one week off. Also, I think that the ADN - MSN student are to find their own community placements for community health nursing, (according what I have been reading on the Forum there.)

Frontier will always be there. I've had to quit full time work to keep up with a PT school schedule (and of course a very large family). That was something I wasn't planning to do at the onset, but it became a necessity last term.

Good luck in what ever you decide. And if you come to Frontier well then :welcome:.

I'm curious. Could anyone talk about finding preceptors and clinical sites. How difficult was it? Did you have to move? Do they have a network of preceptors also? It is wayyy down the road. for me, but as all have said above, I love the philosophy and the folks I havemet who went there.
