  1. Hey Kkaatt Congrats! I'm not sure about NY, but what sticks in my mind is the Filipina nurses that are now involved in a law suit against their NY employer and sponsor because they had to walk out d/t dangerous patient staffing issues. Be very careful before you accept any sponsors and choose a hospital that understands where you are coming from and what you know. American culture is not the same and nursing is...well we tend to eat our young. That being said. An example of a hospital that has worked hard at creating a positive environment for foreign nurses is Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. They have brought in more that 240 nurses. There are special classes and a dedicated unit for orientation, prior to being assigned to the unit that hired you. It is run by nurses from the Philippines that have worked in US for a while. There is a sub-culture in the hospital that is accepted and valued amoung all the nurses and staff docs, and a least when I was there you were allowed to speak Tagalong as long as you weren't in a patient area. Good luck and :welcome:. Chaya
  2. Matt, I have to do something similar in my Associate program I actually shadowed a Nurse manager. Not as exciting as an FNP but an eye opener. If you want to come as far as Baltimore, there are some very nice Critical/Acute Care APNs working at Union Memorial Hospital, that love to have Student! Good luck
  3. I'm in Frontier now in the BSN-MSN FNP program I got my BSN on line thru Thomas Edison State College (cheaper that Frontier) they took all my credits, even my overseas college credits. The instructors were some of the fairest and it was definitly easier than Frontier. Don't forget if you do come to Frontier even though you are ADN by-passing your BSN, you are expected to function at a graduate level. The courses come thick and fast 12 week terms with one week off. Also, I think that the ADN - MSN student are to find their own community placements for community health nursing, (according what I have been reading on the Forum there.) Frontier will always be there. I've had to quit full time work to keep up with a PT school schedule (and of course a very large family). That was something I wasn't planning to do at the onset, but it became a necessity last term. Good luck in what ever you decide. And if you come to Frontier well then :welcome:.
  4. Hi Everyone! I am a student at Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in the FNP tract. We are required to find our own clinical sites, the school hasn't been the best at helping us with updated lead (ie that really lead to something -like a signed contract) but we were aware when we signed up for the program that it can be difficult to find an NP preceptor. Does anyone have ideas as to where I can find an FNP preceptor? I have called my state BON, placed an ad via email on a very popular NP website and have called many many places in MD. We are now relocating back to NYC:o. I start my clinical next Aug. I have a feeling that NYC will be better than Baltimore, but I'm worried. Any and all information and leads would be greatly appriciated.
