One of my best friends just found out she failed out by 0.5 of a point! It REALLY sucks, since we graduate in June!!!!! How many of you guys have lost people far along in the program?
Wow. You guys are making it sound really tough. I can't believe people can make it that far to fail in the last part. I'm hoping that since I passed Military Basic Training I can handle Nursing School LOL! No. I know I can do it just b/c I want it so bad, and when someone tells me I can't do something it makes me want to do it even more. I also have a little girl for motivation, and I just can't wait to get started.
Funny Story: My mom said when she was in nursing school she couldn't fold hospital corners for anything. The instructor made her stay all night and redo this bed 1000 times until she got it right. Later my mom went into the military and you have to do hospital corners in the military also. They said man I've never seen a bed made so tight! My mom winked and said nursing school. LOL
A friend of mine who was not in my class, but who attended the same nursing school I did failed Advanced Med-Surg by 0.5 point and wound up having to wait a year, before she could retake the course and graduate. Absolutely ridiculous. Also, there were 120 in my Freshman class....and only 46 of us graduated.

We started with 30. At the end of the first semester we lost 2. At the end of second semester we lost another. At the end of this semester I am thinking we may lose 2 more.
One of the two on the edge is my best friend in the program and I am doing everything I can to help her! We are taking OB/PEDS/PSYCH/RESEARCHII....she seems to be having the most trouble in OB/PEDS...
any tips on how i can help her would sure be appreciated...i have tried visuals, nclex questions, other text books...it seems her problem is taking the knowledge and applying it to applicaiton based questions..she knows the basic knowledge...help i dont want to lose her with one semester left!!!!!!!!!
OH and i forgot to add: in our program to pass any of our classes our test ave. must be 80%...if it is below you dont pass the class and our quizzes and homework cant help pull our grade over an 80..if our test ave is over an 80 our classwork/quizzes can pull us up to an A but they cant help us pass the class...also if any of us get below an 80 we are kicked out and NOT allowed to retake or rejoin the program..we would have to go to another school...My friend is so worried bc we are almost finished and if she doesnt get an 80% ave she will lose all the money weve spent already (quite a bit) and will have to go to a BSN program and complete another whole year of school!

Hi,
I am in my last semester of nursing school, graduating in May. I know what helps me is using Saunders "Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination" by Linda Anne Silvestri. As you probably know, since you use NCLEX questions and this book is probably no different, they give you the rationales for the right answers as well as giving you the rationale for the wrong answers.
Also, it comes with a CD that allows you to select the content you need to work on. This also gives you rationales (and strategies) if you work in the "study" mode.
Another book that has helped me tremendously is Saunders "Strategies For Success For The NCLEX-RN-Examination" also by Linda Anne Silvestri. There is a way that nursing test questions are written and this book breaks down how to READ and answer them. I cannot tell you how much easier it is to answer questions now. This book even teaches you how to answer questions if you are unfamiliar with the content, a major plus! I just started reading it and can hardly put it down. I received 100% on my last quiz, and I attribute it, not only to my studying, but to this book.
This book also comes with a CD with questions (I think about 500 of them).
Lastly, this same author - I know I sound like a sales person! - has written "Saunders Q & A Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination". I do not have this book, but it has been highly recommended to me. It is all questions.
You may be saying to yourself, "I just want to help my friend get through school, then we'll think about the NCLEX". Well, school is all about teaching you how to take and pass the NCLEX.
Good luck to you and your friend.

Thank you! I think these will help..her problem is mainly applying the knowledge she has to the questions...maybe these strategies will help her with our tests....
i know what your friend i feeling. i failed by .5% and it sucks .
i think that you need to just encourage her to keep going, because i know that all i wanted to do was quit but a few of my friends and family made me feel better. Also i though that there is a reason for everything, you have to believe that.

We just had a girl fail out and the whole class was devastated. She was our class motivator and cheerleader, always leading us on and telling us we can do it! It was heartbreaking.... We have to pass with an 80%, 70-79 in our school is not passing anything, not even a test!!! It's tough sometimes.
